***What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?***

If you are experiencing the following symptoms, then maybe you are suffering from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: do you experience tingling of your thumb? How about your index, middle, and ring fingers? Are you always awaken by pain during the night? Does the pain go away by moving, shaking, or massaging such hand? Does the pain sometimes extend to the arm and the shoulder? Do you have numbness? Are there times when you feel uncomfortable using your hands you feel that your dexterity is lost?Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is the condition which affects the wrist and the hand of the patient. It involves a space in the wrist that is surrounded by bones and a rigid ligament. Such space is called the carpal tunnel. The muscles and tendons are brought into action by moving the wrist and the finger. It is important that the tendons are lubricated to ensure optimal functioning. If the tendons are not lubricated, friction exists between the tendon and the tendon sheath which leads to swelling in that area. The inflammation damages the median nerve by causing formation of fibrous tissue which thickens the sheath and limits tendon movement. The Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is common. Symptoms of the disorder were noted in 614 out of 982 supermarket checkers in one survey, and 52 in 700 employees of an electronic manufacturing plant. 117 in 788 meat handlers had surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome. teksty survey showed that an average of 65 carpal tunnel operations have been performed by 400 American hand surgeons each year.Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is usually seen in individuals who do a lot of repetitive hand motions, strong and tight gripping, vibration, and whose job entails that they undergo mechanical stress on their palm. Awkward hand positions will also predispose one to develop the disorder. Those occupations that are at risk for developing carpal tunnel syndrome are as follows: cashiers, typists, knitters, cloth sewers and hairdressers. Those who work in the bakery who always do repetitive flexing-extending wrist movement while kneading may also develop the disorder eventually, along with those whose job entails they use a spray paint gun for hours and other vibrating hand tools. The disorder has been associated with several diseases. These include arthritis, tendon sheath tumors, hypothyroidism, gout, and Diabetes Mellitus. Wrist dislocations and fractures are also risk factors to developing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. The prolonged use of oral contraceptive pills has been associated with increased risk for CTS, as well as menopause and pregnancy. These diseases and physiological events supposedly increase the risk for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome because they cause the swelling of the structures inside the carpal tunnel which compresses the median nerve. Some anatomical variations such as the size and shape of the wrist may also increase the risk of getting CTS. Some symptoms experienced by patients with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome present with weakness of the hand, making it hard to use the hand in pinching or grasping. Dry skin may also be experienced.Evaluating carpal tunnel syndrome always starts with evaluating the risk that the person's job has with CTS. The physician will ask about the patient's employment, what goes on in a typical day's work, and the frequency and regularity of the tasks the patient performs at work. The physician will perform physical examination called the Tinel's test and Phalen's test. In performing the Tinel's test, the doctor will tap the wrist of the patient in the median nerve area and if the maneuver will result to tingling of the finger, it indicates damage to the median nerve. The Phalen's test is when the patient bends the wrist for a minute and he feels finger tingling. These two tests will help the physician greatly in the evaluation and diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome. This will also help the physician to evaluate if the patient needs surgery for the carpal tunnel syndrome. The physician may also order for electromyography to measure how fast the median nerve transmits messages to muscles. This is a good indication of the status of the median nerve. If you think that you are experiencing the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome, it is best to seek consult from a qualified physician to evaluate the disorder. There are other risks as you sit in front of that computer but it would be to much to write about in this article, so if you would like to learn more about other risks such as:Eye strain

***Stretch Before Working On Your Computer***

Did you know that spending long hours at your computer can put your health at serious risk? Most people does not even consider that possibility, but t does, Working at a desk is extremely hard on your body, and I would like to share this with you so maybe you can avoid some of the most common health risks.TYPES OF STRETCHINGWhat do we usually do before engaging on a workout at the gym? We stretch, right? But have you ever thought why we do this?Stretching is very important. It warms up the muscles by increasing its alertness and blood flow to avoid injury. There are different types of stretching that cater to different needs.1. Ballistic stretchingThis type of stretching forces a moving limb way beyond its normal range of movement. One example of ballistic stretching is touching your fingers to your toes. This type brings you to a suddenly stretched position instead of a gradual one.The muscles that are stretched serves as a spring that can get you out of the stretched position. This type of stretch is not that useful and can lead to injuries. It does not give your muscles enough time to relax and adjust in the stretched position.2. Dynamic stretchingThis is the opposite of ballistic stretching. In this type, you are not forced to stretch your muscles drastically. Examples of this type are torso twists and leg and arm swings. It involves gradual and slow movements of body parts. There is also a slow increase in reach and in the speed of movement. It is of big help to one's warm up for m
artial arts and dancing classes.3. Active stretchingThere is also what you call the active stretching or the static-active stretching. This requires you to stretch, for example, your leg, up in the air and hold it there for a few seconds. You hold it in place without asking for any assistance but from your antagonist muscles. This kind of stretching can help relax the muscles and is done for ten to fifteen seconds. Yoga utilizes this type of stretching.4. Passive stretchingThis is also called the relaxed stretching or static-passive stretching. This type is somewhat like the static-active stretch. However, with static-passive stretching, you need someone or an apparatus to hold the stretched out limb for you.An example of this is stretching up your leg while it is being held up in place by, say, your gym instructor. Splitting is also a perfect example of passive stretching. The floor serves as the apparatus to help support your stretched out position.5. Static StretchingStatic stretching is usually confused with passive stretching. However, these stretches are two different things. In static stretching, you are brought to the farthest point of your stretch and holding it in place. On the other hand, passive stretching is a more relaxed form of stretching because you do not have to control the range of motion because it is created by an outside force either mechanically or manually.6. sometric StretchingIsometric stretching is a kind of static stretching that does not require movement. You just have to tense the stretched out muscles. This can be used to increase the static-passive flexibility and is more effective active or passive stretching alone. It can also enhance strength on tensed muscles that can help decrease pain due to stretching. An example this is when you push up on a wall. Asking someone to hold your leg up for you while you force your leg down is also an example of isometric stretching. This kind of stretch is not apt for growing children and adolescents because they are flexible
enough that these strong stretches could just increase the risk of muscle injuries.7. PNF StretchingPNF means proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation. This is actually a technique and not a type of stretch. It combines passive and isometric stretching so you can reach your static flexibility maximum. As a matter of fact, this is used as a rehabilitation therapy for stroke victims. Similar to the isometric stretching, this type is not recommended for children and others who have growing bones. There goes the different types of stretching. In order to avoid injuries, it is better to stretch before doing anything else. Be it just for some light activity or a heavy workload. Take stretching seriously and feel the benefits it can give your body. There are other risks as you sit in front of that computer but it would be to much to write about in this article, so if you would like to learn more about other risks such as:Eye strain

***Lower Back Pain and Your Computer is a Bad Combination***

Did you know that spending long hours at your computer can put your health at serious risk?
Most people does not even consider that possibility, but it does.Working at a desk is extremely hard on your body, and I would like to share this with you so maybe you can avoid some of the most common health risks. One of the most common one is: LOWER BACK-PAINWHAT CAUSES LOWER BACK-PAIN?Age does not really matter. No, reaching old age is not the only culprit why one might just be feeling the excruciating pangs of lower back pain.Reports have it that 80% of adult women and men suffer from lower back pain; several elements can still cause this condition. When the muscles that hold the lower back vertebra, the set of bones that constitute the spinal column, get strained lower back pain is the end result. These bones protect, support, and secure these muscles. This muscle injury is aggravated by stress that a person with lower back pain does not give much attention to. The common symptoms of lower back pain include a discomfort felt on the lower area of the back, a bad posture, swelling and or bruising of the lower back.teksty physician discovers this condition through the history of back damage and the location of the discomfort.Treatment includes providing enough rest for the patient to avoid re-straining of the muscles, medications (analgesics and anti-spasms), massage, and lower back and abdominal muscle reconditioning through special exercises.Nerve irritation is also one cause of lower back pain. Mechanical damage and diseases may upset the nerves of the lumbar spine. These conditions include radiculopathy, a disease of the discs of the lower back, bony intrusion, and inflamed nerves caused by a viral infection, e.g., shingles. The pain may only concentrate on one area but may also spread to other spots, commonly on the buttocks or even at the back of the thighs. When this pain has spread to those mentioned spots, it is referred to as sciatica. Sciatica usually comes from a ruptured disc (what connects the vertebrae) in the lower back. This damage, aside from distressing injury, is a result of the inevitable wear and tear of a part of the disc called the outer ring.Treatment of these types of damages may range from patient learning and medications to surgery.Arthritis diseases that are of inflammatory kinds can also trouble the lumbar part. Reiter's disease, inflammatory bowel arthritis and psoriatic arthritis are some of these types of arthritis. They can lead to pain and a stiff lower back that is usually aggravated in the morning. Medications that decrease the inflammation are usually administered to patients suffering from lower back pain caused by these arthritis diseases.Kidney problems may also be attributed to the presence of lower back pain. Urinalysis and x-rays may help diagnose this cause of lower back pain. Lumbar pain could also stem from pregnancy, ovary problems, and tumors.Aside from those usual sources of lower back pain, doctors pinpoint Paget's disease of the bone to also cause lumbar discomfort. It is a disease of an unknown cause in which bone formation happens abnormally. This results to weakened bone and deformity that eventually cause the pain.Pelvis bleeding, bulging of the wall of the aorta (a blood vessel), spinal cartilage and or bone infection, are the other unusual reasons for the proliferation of lower back pain.Treatment of lower back pain often includes physiotherapy and medicines. Physiotherapists are very important in strengthening the muscles around the back after treatment. They aid sufferers do exercises that will promote the body's healing process. They go hand in hand with the chiropractors that aid in the recuperative process of the patient without medication.Other than that, acupuncture, massage, aromatherapy, steroid injections, reflexology and surgery are considered viable alternatives in dealing with lower back pain. There are other risks as you sit in front of that computer but it would be to much to write about in this article, so if you would like to learn more about other risks such as:Eye strain

***The Computer And Your Heel - Can There Be teksty Connection?***

When dealing with acute pain, like pain in the heel, people remedy it by taking pain relievers or analgesics for quick relief. However, there can be a lot of causes of for heel pain that one may not be aware of so it is very important to find out where the pain really comes from. Here are some possible causes and treatments for heel pain. You may be suffering from plantar fasciitis. The tissue on the arch of the foot gets inflamed therefore giving heel pain. This condition is quite common. This is due to standing and walking for long periods of time. You can also have heel spur. This is usually seen in patients who have plantar fasciitis.Tarsal tunnel syndrome can also be a cause for heel pain. This is the counterpart of carpal tunnel syndrome which is associated with the hands.Similar to that of a person with CTS, there is a nerve at the back of the foot that becomes entrapped. This is what gives the person pain.Stress fractures can also cause heel pain although this is very uncommon. This is usually experienced by athletes like long distance runners. It affects the calcaneus located in the foot. One treatment for heel pain can be shoe inserts. More often than not, it can totally eradicate heel pain. These inserts do not interfere with your daily routine thus are very comfortable to wear.Since heel pain can also be unknowingly caused by one's footwear, it is better and safe to wear shoe inserts. You can also consider getting gel heel cups. This can be helpful for patients with plantar fasciitis and heel pain. What these heel cups do is that they provide a soft cushion or padding to the area of the foot that has the most pain.It elevates the hindfoot slightly therefore reducing the pressure on the plantar fascia. Use them on all your shoes to provide you with more comfort.Arch supports can also provide relief to patients with heel pain. These supports do not change the mechanics of the foot but it eradicates the symptoms in a number of patients. It can also be helpful to problems like flatfoot and overpronation.Heel wedges can also be used for heel pain relief. These are placed at the back of the shoes. It takes the pressure off from the hind foot by elevating the heel a little bit.It can be used to treat patients with Achilles tendonitis. Though people with plantar fasciitis can also use these wedges, the heel cups would be more appropriate for this. You can start with a small one and then you can increase the wedge if necessary.Metatarsalgia is a condition wherein pain is experienced underneath the ball of the foot. Metatarsal pads can help in this condition by relieving symptoms. To decrease heel pain, it pays to take a rest. If you are an athlete, you can take a day or two off from prolonged jogging, running, or walking. In case your foot or the structures within your foot might be inflamed, it can allow the inflammation to subside. You can also apply ice packs. Ice packs are commonly used as first aid to pain because like analgesics, it is give quick relief to the person in acute pain. There is a right way of applying ice packs. Only fifteen minutes is required to do this. Remember that you have to apply the ice immediately after an injury. After forty eight hours, the effect of the icing will subside. You have to apply the ice directly to the affected part. Move the ice around. Do not let it stay on one spot only. Elevate the injured part. It should be higher than the heart. This helps reduce the swelling. Do the icing for 15-20 minutes only because if you exceed this time limit, you can damage the tissues more. You may also get frostbite from icing too long. You can repeat the process if you want but allow it to warm first for at least 45 minutes to an hour. The injured area has to have normal sensation and is warm before starting the procedure again.Dealing with heel pain is not that complex. However, you have to consult the experts first before anything else since heel pain can be a result of certain factors that need immediate attention. All efforts of relieving heel pain will render useless without knowing the real root of the discomfort. There are other risks as you sit in front of that computer but it would be to much to write about in this article, so if you would like to learn more about other risks such as:Eye strain

***Can Working On Your Computer Cause Foot Pain?***

Suffering from unbelievable pain on your foot? Can't walk long distances without stopping from time to time? Can't wear your favorite shoes but the pain coming from the ball of your foot, the arch, or the heel kills you?Foot pain, known as metatarsalgia, usually occurs between the arch and the toe. It usually occurs in the foot's mid-portion.teksty callus may cause foot pain. It is a skin build-up that developed due to pressure over the bone. It is usually found on the foot's bottom, and causes pain when walking. Shoes may also cause foot pain ? too loose or too tight shoes may give you incredible pain in your foot.Ill-fitting shoes may also cause pain because they tend to squeeze the foot, causing the pressure inside the increase. Loose shoes on the other hand creates friction by providing space for sliding and rubbing. If the pain is in the underside of the foot, it might be due to a torn ligament or maybe a joint inflammation. You should consult with an orthopedic surgeon to further evaluate the damage and assess the status of the joint. Some practical tips may help relieve foot pain. One of this is using a shoe insert which is available in drugstores and department stores. Many different brands are available and promise to help you with your foot pain problem. This shoe insert will be an excellent shock absorber so that you can wear any pair of shoes you want comfortable.Since calluses causes foot pain, soaking feet to soften the calluses will help. Using a pumice stone or a file will help relieve you of your foot pain.Of course the most practical and simplest way to prevent and relieve foot pain is to buy a pair that fits perfectly. It should be wide enough not to cause cramping inside the foot. For maximum comfort, heels should be flat or high-heeled but not higher than 2 ??.Burning feet is a fairly common condition and involves the whole foot. It may be so severe that people who have the condition are usually kept awake at night because of the pain.It happens more often to people over 50, although some younger people may also experience the condition. Diabetics often encounter this condition as a part of the nerve damage that may develop from their disease.Another location of foot pain is the heel. Because the calcaneus or the heel bone is the largest bone that can be found in the foot, it usually hits the ground first when the individual walk, causing foot pain.Another cause is due to strain on the ligament at the foot bottom, called plantar fascistic. Usually pain is felt early on the morning, upon waking up. Heel pain may also be caused by rheumatoid arthritis, gouty arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis.Athletes also tend to develop heel pain from stress fractures.Foot pain may also occur over the arch. It is caused by a strain in the structure in that part of the foot. Toe pain is also a common condition and might be due to an ingrown toe nail. An ingrown toe nail results in an infection and pressure in the nail fold area which can be very painful. It is important to consult an expert to have the ingrown nail evaluated. He will prescribe you the antibiotics appropriate for your condition which you will have to take for several days.He will also advise you proper care of the foot so that you will not have to suffer from foot pain again.Foot pain can also occur in the ankle. It is usually due to long term wear and tear of the ankles, and activities that causes the ankle to tip over. Foot pain may also be due to nerve damage.Pain that occurs on the ball of the foot may be because of masses or growths of tissues which wrap around nerves and causes pain. This is called Morton's neuroma. It usually occurs in a single foot and women are at increased risk.Mild ache with some burning or tingling usually is felt around the third or fourth toe. Wearing narrow shoes and pointed shoes exacerbate the symptom, like a rock is inside the shoe. There are other risks as you sit in front of that computer but it would be to much to write about in this article, so if you would like to learn more about other risks such as:Eye strain

***teksty Silent Killer***

I did realize I was one of them, I just did not know how many of us it was. Now you are probably wondering what in the world I am talking about.Bad circulation! teksty condition affecting around 10 million people here in the United States alone.Poor circulation has been a part of everyday life for me, for many years now, and I never gave it a second thought. Little did I know how serious this problem could be? Being a little over weight I always worried about serious illnesses like diabetes and heart attacks.Never in my wildest imagination would I have believed that a little tingling in my arms and legs could prove more dangerous than those. You probably did not think so either, did you?Come to find out, bad circulation can be a very sneaky and silent killer. It literally sneaks around in your body and only gives you small hints (arms and legs falling asleep) now and then that something might be going on in your body which might not be so good.Terrified is probably how you would feel if you knew what this condition can lead to unless you get it under control.teksty lot of things can cause bad circulation such as obesity, smoking and to little exercise. This does not necessarily mean that you have to get involved in a lot of activities, just get back to what was once normal.People in today?s society generally get way to little exercise. We hardly do any moving around. You probably drive everywhere you have to go, while years ago people would walk or ride their bikes. How often do you see your neighbors going for a walk or you for that matter? If you are one of those suffering from bad circulation you need to worry because the end results of having poor circulation might be you loosing a limb due to gangrene which is caused by bad circulation.Even worst is the clogging of the arteries that can lead to heart attack or stroke.
Come to find out, these things can be so easily prevented just by recognizing the symptoms and taking action.Yes, you can prevent this from happening to you!It was a stroke of luck how I found out. Luck or maybe it was meant to be that I typed the wrong thing in my computer and ended up on a wrong web site.Mind you, this subject was not even close to being on my mind when I stumbled across this site. It sure has been since and I feel that with all the people suffering from this condition, they obviously need to be made aware of what they are dealing with.Knowing might just mean the difference between life and death. If you are, or even have a suspicion that you might have problems with bad circulation you really should check out this web site: www.beatbadcirculation.com.Your life is worth that much at least, is it not?Hege Crowton is an up and coming writer who's articles has been picked up by many web sites.

***Eye Strain Caused By Your Computer***

Did you know that spending long hours at your computer can put your health at serious risk?
Most people does not even consider that possibility, but t does, Working at a desk is extremely hard on your body, and I would like to share this with you so maybe you can avoid some of the most common health risks.
One of the most common one is: eye strain.SAVE YOUR EYES FROM EYE STRAINVisual problems like eyes strain may result from overusing the muscles of your eyes. If not careful, eye strain will occur in any eye muscle held in one position for a long period of time. These eye straining activities are as follows: reading, watching television, or staring at the computer.People with occupations that require lots of staring such as dressmaking, designers, or computer engineers are prone to developing eye strain. Even people who do a lot of reading is prone to developing eye strain like medical students, lawyers, scientists, and researchers. The muscles of your inner eye tightens and irritates your eyes, making you feel very uncomfortable, resulting to eye strain. teksty five-minute break from time to time is very good to your eyes.Eye strain may be caused by improper lighting, excessive glaring at the computer screen, bad position of the computer screen, or difficulty reading copy material. Eye strain may present with the following symptoms: pain and burning in and behind the eyes. There may also be headache and eye fatigue. Blurred vision, dry eyes, itching eyes, and burning eyes. It is important to consult a qualified eye doctor at once when you experience such symptoms to prevent possible damage and to learn eye exercises that you can do.In people over 40 years old, eye strain is usually a sign that they need to get prescription glasses. So it is important to have your eye refracted and see if its what is causing the problem. They may also have chronically dry eyes, and the eye strain may also just be tiredness from overuse of the eyes. To solve this uncomfortable eye strain problem, simply close your eyes for a few minutes ? it will help refocus your eyes. Blinking also helps because it gives moisture to the eyes. Artificial tears also help since strain can lead to eye dryness and re-moistening your eyes ? either artificial tears or by blinking ? is a great way to ease your tight eye muscles. It is important that people wear eyeglasses that correctly fit because wearing the wrong kind of glasses will just contribute more to the eye strain. It is also possible that wearing these ill-fitting eyeglasses will predispose the individual to develop eye strain. If you suspect that your eye strain is due to too much staring at the computer monitor, then you may adjust the contrast of your monitor to high. Also try to reposition your screen to avoid glare. When outdoors, do not be caught dead without sunglasses. Squinting due to the sun tightens the eye muscles, so remember to bring nice pair of sunglasses all year round. teksty big hat also protects you from the harmful rays of the sun, as well as baseball caps which, along with sunglasses, are cool and stylish and protects you fro eye strain. You may try to arrange your work station so the lighting will not hurt your eyes. Vision breaks are also recommended, so is changing your eye focus once in a while to relax the eye muscles. Eye exercises such as rolling the eyes and tightly close the eye will greatly relieve you with your eye strain. Making sure that the computer screens are clean and streak-free.teksty good exercise for relieving eye strain is to lie down, close the eyes, and put a cold compress over your eyes and let it for about ten minutes. People who suffer from eye strain should get enough sleep every night to lessen the symptom.Dietary supplements help in the reduction of eye strain. Vitamin teksty is good for all eye disorders. Intra-ocular cellular metabolism is improved by taking in vitamin V complex. Eye fatigue is greatly reduced by taking in Riboflavin. If the condition persists, then you should see your eye doctor to help you with your eyes' sensitivity to light. Consult an expert before any permanent damage will occur. It might also be an acute glaucoma attack. Anyone who has eye straining occupations should undergo annual exams. People more than 40 years should get more frequent check-ups.Perform such eye strain exercises and save your eyes. There are other risks as you sit in front of that computer but it would be to much to write about in this article, so if you would like to learn more about other risks such as:Eye strain

***Pain in the Neck could be from Your Computer***

Neck pain can really get irritating if it persists for long periods of time. The pain can get unbearable that's why some people succumb to taking medications or pain relievers only to find out that they don't do them any good. Let's check out these simple and basic tips on how to treat and relieve you from neck pain.1. Get spinal checkups regularly. It is very important to always keep your spine aligned. This can ensure the proper functioning of your neck and back, specifically the upper region. Your chiropractor will do spinal adjustments on you. This can decrease the stress on your thoracic and cervical spines. It also improves the communication between your brain and all parts of the body. As a result, a happier and healthier you.2. Always be conscious of your posture. There are a lot of people who exhibit poor posture. When asked to stand up straight, they are unable to exude the proper posture anymore. This is because they have been used to that kind of posture and they are unaware of it already. Proper posture does not only involve the back, as lot may think. It also includes the neck. Poor posture, if not dealt with can give rise to neck pain as well.3. Exercise regularly.Exercising does not only do good to the body's muscular and cardiovascular system but to the skeletal system, too. For an efficient and effective program, you have to do at least three sessions a week for about forty minutes. In order to be more inspired to do these exercises, involve the whole family and your friends. It will benefit, not only yourself, but your loved ones as well.4. Eat well and eat right.Naturally, you keep your body healthy by eating the right food at the right amount. When you observe proper diet and nutrition, your body will the given the appropriate energy or fuel that can increase your endurance and performance. It can also increase your body's immune system to fight injuries and sickness. It can speep your recovery from injury and it also makes you feel good. If you are having a hard time eating right, you might as well consider taking up dietary supplements to cover up for vitamin and mineral deficiencies in your body.5. Manage stress. There are a lot of techniques devised to relieve stress, if not to eliminate it totally. Usually, stress is carried on the upper back, the shoulders, and the neck. If you prefer, go to your nearest chiropractor to ask about these techniques and how to do them the right way.6. Do not put pressure on your neck. For example, while using the telephone, do not use your neck and shoulders to hold it while you talk. In the office, always sit properly and keep your neck straight by working at eye level. You can unconsciously get neck pain during sleep because you are unaware of your movements. You can use a cervical pillow for this. You can also roll a towel and put it around the curve of your neck while you sleep. Never sleep on your stomach.7. Stretch. It is always best to do stretching if possible. In the office or at home, you can take short breaks just to reduce the tension. Some massage won't hurt either. It can decrease the tension not only on your shoulders but also on your neck.Do not let yourself get weighed down by neck pain. If you are one of those people suffering from neck pain, do not fret. There are a lot of simple techniques and remedies you can get and use wherever you may be.There are other risks as you sit in front of that computer but it would be to much to write about in this article, so if you would like to learn more about other risks such as:Eye strain

***A Review of InfoPlease***

I stumbled upon this website using Firefox's StumbleUpon extension. This site seems to just be one big help tool for research. I'm not saying it's a bad thing though as the site is very useful.Along the top of the page, you have links to the various categories that the site is divided into. I've never really read an almanac before so I didn't really know what to expect. As it turns out, it just seems to be a list of statistics such as the top 10 videogames of 2005. I find that sort of stuff interesting so I had a browse around there and found a couple of interesting things. For example, did you know that the number of houselholds with computers in the US has risen by almost 20% from 1998 to 2003? That sort of information could provide some filler for all those dull conversations you have with people you don't talk to much. Now, along the side of the page, you have things such as 'Editor's Picks', a list of tools provided by the site and links to subscribe to RSS feeds. One of the picks that I found interesting was The Meaning And Origins of Names. You can find out how US States were named, the origins of the days of the week and even find out the names of the Pokemon in Japanese. This site is defnitely worth a look at and perhaps even bookmarking if you are still at school or University.Inevitably, not every site is perfect. This one has huge spaces at the top and right hand sides. Both are about an inch big. This could just be Firefox blocking the adverts but those extra inches could make a big difference. On the homepage, I scroll down that inch and I find that the site has a daily fact and it's own crossword taken from the LA Times as well as a feature on Looking For Mr / Ms. Right. For some people, that could be the difference from clicking away and staying on the site. FInally, the 'Help' link is perhaps in the worst place it could be - Right at the bottom left corner of the page so unless you know some sneaky tricks to find it quickly then it could be a bit hard to find.In conclusion, this site is definitely a great one in terms of referencing material for projects and such but for functionality, it isn't exactly the best out there. I think that there are certainly better sites out there but this one shouldn't be over looked.Written by Adam @ http: / / www.sitereviewer.net - Visit us for more reviews.

***Cisco CCNP / BSCI Exam Tutorial: A Guide To Ipv6 Addressing unimarter UniMarter
***Cisco CCNP / BSCI Exam Tutorial: A Guide To Ipv6 Addressing***

Learning IPv6 is paramount in your efforts to pass the BSCI exam and go on to earn your CCNP, and it's going to help in your real-world networking career as well. IPv6 can be confusing at first, but it's like anything else in Cisco or networking as a whole - learn one part at a time, master the fundamentals, and you're on your way to success. In today's article we're going to take a look at IPv6 address types. In IPv4, a unicast address is simply an address used to represent a single host, where multicast addresses represent a group of hosts and broadcasts represent all hosts. In IPv6, it's not quite that simple. There are actually different types of unicast addresses, each with its own separate function. This allows IPv6 to get data where it's supposed to go quicker than IPv4 while conserving router resources.IPv6 offers two kinds of local addresses, link-local and site-local. Site-local addresses allow devices in the same organization, or site, to exchange data. Site-local addresses are IPv6's equivalent to IPv4's private address classes, since hosts using them are able to communicate with each other throughout the organization, but these addresses cannot be used to reach Internet hosts.Site-local and link-local addresses are actually derived from a host's MAC address. Therefore, if HostA has HostB's IPv6 address, HostA can determine HostB's MAC address from that, making ARP unnecessary.Link-local addresses have a smaller scope than site-local. Link-local addresses are just that, local to a physical link. These particular addresses are not used at all in forwarding data. One use for these addresses is Neighbor Discovery, which is IPv6's answer to ARP.You can identify these and other IPv6 addresses by their initial bits:001 - Global address(first 96 bits set to zero) - IPv4-compatible address1111 1111 ? Multicast1111 1110 11 - Site local1111 1110 10 - Link LocalAs a future CCNP, you're more than familiar with the reserved IPv4 address classes. You also know that they're not exactly contiguous. The developers of IPv6 took a structured approach to IPv6 reserved addresses - any address that begins with "0000 0000" is an IPv6 reserved address. One of these is the IPv6 loopback address, and this will give you some practice with your zero compression!IP v6 Loopback: 0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0001Using Leading Zero Compression Only: 0:0:0:0:0:0:0:1Combining Leading Zero and Zero Compression: ::1Zero compression looks pretty good now, doesn't it? You just have to get used to it and keep the rules in mind. You can use all the leading zero compression you want, but zero compression ("double-colon") can only be used once in a single address.IPv6 is here to stay, not only on your BSCI and CCNP exams, but in the real world as well. Learning it now will not only aid you in passing your Cisco exams, but in supporting IPv6 in the future.Chris Bryant, CCIE #12933 , is the owner of The Bryant Advantage, home of free CCNP and CCNA tutorials, The Ultimate CCNA Study Package, and Ultimate CCNP Study Packages. For a FREE copy of his latest e-books, ?How To Pass The CCNA? and ?How To Pass The CCNP?, just visit the website! ***Review of Directory Generator by Armand Morin*** Director unimarter UniMarter
***Review of Directory Generator by Armand Morin***

Directory Generator is a software product that can generate hundreds of keyword-targeted web pages. The purpose is to help you get targeted traffic to your website so you can make more sales or earn commissions.I was one of the earliest users of Directory Generator before it launched publicly August 26, 2004, so I?ve had a little head start in testing it.Let me give you a little background info first: In late 2003, new traffic generating software appeared called Traffic Equalizer. I have to admit I knew nothing about it until recently. My guess as to why is that it is talked about mostly among big marketers, and probably mostly at seminars. It?s just like Armand Morin to ride the traffic software wave and even try to make a better surfboard. And that?s what Directory Generator is.It is supposed to be equivalent to software such as Ranking Power, Traffic Equalizer, and Traffic Hurricane, which allows you to get targeted traffic by generating pages that get high search engine rankings. The difference is, like most of what Armand does, the results are classier and more professional looking.Of the previously mentioned programs, Traffic Hurricane is the only one that is free. Why pay for this other software if you can get it free? Because your Traffic Hurricane pages will have someone else?s Google AdSense ads on your pages, earning them money off your traffic. Now that I have Directory Generator, I don?t need someone else earning money from my traffic unless they?re going to pay me part of it. Selfish, aren?t I? One other thing: I?m surprised no one noticed this but Google doesn?t allow Adsense code to be placed on pages not owned by you, so the way this is set up might get someone into trouble.I know what you?re thinking?Yeah, that?s nice but can Directory Generator really generate targeted traffic? Absolutely! The first website I created with Directory Generator is steadily earning Google AdWords income every single day without me doing a thing. It took 30 days for traffic and commissions to really start kicking in. I don?t want this to sound like hype but this is the easiest money I?ve made so far. Nevertheless the second website I made isn?t doing squat. But that just tells me: There?s no such thing as a sure thing. The domain name you choose and keywords you target can make a difference. But the second website also hasn?t been up as long, so we?ll see what happens?Am I going to get rich off the money it?s generating? No, nor could someone quit their job with it, but at the rate it?s working I would earn the $250 price back fairly quickly. My goal was to first earn the domain fee back and I did. The site is listed in Google, but gets no traffic from there. Most of the traffic comes from other search engines. If it had multiple pages spidered by Google, look out!I?ve heard through the grapevine of multiple people earning 4-figure monthly incomes from sites created with traffic-generating software. And I?ve heard of one person earning a six-figure income. For now, this test tells me that this software really does work. Here?s a little secret: No one who uses traffic generating software will tell you their website URL. That?s because they don?t want people ripping off their profitable website. So you have to buy the software to see the sites it produces. At $250 a pop, that?s an expensive trial. What do you do with the traffic it generates?1. You earn Google Adsense commissions (this feature is built into the software).
2. You can add SearchFeed (you can?t add both. Google doesn?t allow it).
3. You can add a Linkshare ad to earn additional commissions.
4. The newest version lets you earn Amazon commissions.BENEFITS: Easily generate 100s of keyword targeted pages for a niche directory.
Disadvantage: You still have to choose your keywords which will be your site theme. You have to know how to FTP the pages to your web host. Unlike Traffic Equalizer, the program won?t do it for you.CONCLUSION: Highly recommended. Thank goodness Armand didn?t price this software too cheaply. If you only try one traffic-generating software program, I recommend Directory Generator.Donna Knight is a Website Promotion Specialist and Computer Trainer. She has built over 250 websites. ***Data Discovery vs. Data Extraction*** Looking at screen-s unimarter UniMarter
***Data Discovery vs. Data Extraction***

Looking at screen-scraping at a simplified level, there are two primary stages involved: data discovery and data extraction. Data discovery deals with navigating a web site to arrive at the pages containing the data you want, and data extraction deals with actually pulling that data off of those pages. Generally when people think of screen-scraping they focus on the data extraction portion of the process, but my experience has been that data discovery is often the more difficult of the two.The data discovery step in screen-scraping might be as simple as requesting a single URL. For example, you might just need to go to the home page of a site and extract out the latest news headlines. On the other side of the spectrum, data discovery may involve logging in to a web site, traversing a series of pages in order to get needed cookies, submitting a POST request on a search form, traversing through search results pages, and finally following all of the ?details? links within the search results pages to get to the data you?re actually after. In cases of the former a simple Perl script would often work just fine. For anything much more complex than that, though, a commercial screen-scraping tool can be an incredible time-saver. Especially for sites that require logging in, writing code to handle screen-scraping can be a nightmare when it comes to dealing with cookies and such.In the data extraction phase you?ve already arrived at the page containing the data you?re interested in, and you now need to pull it out of the HTML. Traditionally this has typically involved creating a series of regular expressions that match the pieces of the page you want (e.g., URL?s and link titles). Regular expressions can be a bit complex to deal with, so most screen-scraping applications will hide these details from you, even though they may use regular expressions behind the scenes. As an addendum, I should probably mention a third phase that is often ignored, and that is, what do you do with the data once you?ve extracted it? Common examples include writing the data to a CSV or XML file, or saving it to a database. In the case of a live web site you might even scrape the information and display it in the user?s web browser in real-time. When shopping around for a screen-scraping tool you should make sure that it gives you the flexibility you need to work with the data once it?s been extracted.Todd Wilson is the owner of screen-scraper.com (http: / / www.screen-scraper.com / ), a company which specializes in data extraction from web pages.

***Three Common Methods For Web Data Extraction*** Probably unimarter UniMarter
***Three Common Methods For Web Data Extraction***

Probably the most common technique used traditionally to extract data from web pages this is to cook up some regular expressions that match the pieces you want (e.g., URL's and link titles). Our screen-scraper software actually started out as an application written in Perl for this very reason. In addition to regular expressions, you might also use some code written in something like Java or Active Server Pages to parse out larger chunks of text. Using raw regular expressions to pull out the data can be a little intimidating to the uninitiated, and can get a bit messy when a script contains a lot of them. At the same time, if you're already familiar with regular expressions, and your scraping project is relatively small, they can be a great solution.Other techniques for getting the data out can get very sophisticated as algorithms that make use of artificial intelligence and such are applied to the page. Some programs will actually analyze the semantic content of an HTML page, then intelligently pull out the pieces that are of interest. Still other approaches deal with developing "ontologies", or hierarchical vocabularies intended to represent the content domain. There are a number of companies (including our own) that offer commercial applications specifically intended to do screen-scraping. The applications vary quite a bit, but for medium to large-sized projects they're often a good solution. Each one will have its own learning curve, so you should plan on taking time to learn the ins and outs of a new application. Especially if you plan on doing a fair amount of screen-scraping it's probably a good idea to at least shop around for a screen-scraping application, as it will likely save you time and money in the long run.So what's the best approach to data extraction? It really depends on what your needs are, and what resources you have at your disposal. Here are some of the pros and cons of the various approaches, as well as suggestions on when you might use each one:Raw regular expressions and codeAdvantages:- If you're already familiar with regular expressions and at least one programming language, this can be a quick solution.
- Regular expressions allow for a fair amount of "fuzziness" in the matching such that minor changes to the content won't break them.
- You likely don't need to learn any new languages or tools (again, assuming you're already familiar with regular expressions and a programming language).
- Regular expressions are supported in almost all modern programming languages. Heck, even VBScript has a regular expression engine. It's also nice because the various regular expression implementations don't vary too significantly in their syntax.Disadvantages:- They can be complex for those that don't have a lot of experience with them. Learning regular expressions isn't like going from Perl to Java. It's more like going from Perl to XSLT, where you have to wrap your mind around a completely different way of viewing the problem.
- They're often confusing to analyze. Take a look through some of the regular expressions people have created to match something as simple as an email address and you'll see what I mean.
- If the content you're trying to match changes (e.g., they change the web page by adding a new "font" tag) you'll likely need to update your regular expressions to account for the change.
- The data discovery portion of the process (traversing various web pages to get to the page containing the data you want) will still need to be handled, and can get fairly complex if you need to deal with cookies and such. When to use this approach: You'll most likely use straight regular expressions in screen-scraping when you have a small job you want to get done quickly. Especially if you already know regular expressions, there's no sense in getting into other tools if all you need to do is pull some news headlines off of a site.Ontologies and artificial intelligenceAdvantages:- You create it once and it can more or less extract the data from any page within the content domain you're targeting.
- The data model is generally built in. For example, if you're extracting data about cars from web sites the extraction engine already knows what the make, model, and price are, so it can easily map them to existing data structures (e.g., insert the data into the correct locations in your database).
- There is relatively little long-term maintenance required. As web sites change you likely will need to do very little to your extraction engine in order to account for the changes.Disadvantages:- It's relatively complex to create and work with such an engine. The level of expertise required to even understand an extraction engine that uses artificial intelligence and ontologies is much higher than what is required to deal with regular expressions.
- These types of engines are expensive to build. There are commercial offerings that will give you the basis for doing this type of data extraction, but you still need to configure them to work with the specific content domain you're targeting.
- You still have to deal with the data discovery portion of the process, which may not fit as well with this approach (meaning you may have to create an entirely separate engine to handle data discovery). Data discovery is the process of crawling web sites such that you arrive at the pages where you want to extract data. When to use this approach: Typically you'll only get into ontologies and artificial intelligence when you're planning on extracting information from a very large number of sources. It also makes sense to do this when the data you're trying to extract is in a very unstructured format (e.g., newspaper classified ads). In cases where the data is very structured (meaning there are clear labels identifying the various data fields), it may make more sense to go with regular expressions or a screen-scraping application.Screen-scraping softwareAdvantages:- Abstracts most of the complicated stuff away. You can do some pretty sophisticated things in most screen-scraping applications without knowing anything about regular expressions, HTTP, or cookies.
- Dramatically reduces the amount of time required to set up a site to be scraped. Once you learn a particular screen-scraping application the amount of time it requires to scrape sites vs. other methods is significantly lowered.
- Support from a commercial company. If you run into trouble while using a commercial screen-scraping application, chances are there are support forums and help lines where you can get assistance.Disadvantages:- The learning curve. Each screen-scraping application has its own way of going about things. This may imply learning a new scripting language in addition to familiarizing yourself with how the core application works.
- A potential cost. Most ready-to-go screen-scraping applications are commercial, so you'll likely be paying in dollars as well as time for this solution.
- A proprietary approach. Any time you use a proprietary application to solve a computing problem (and proprietary is obviously a matter of degree) you're locking yourself into using that approach. This may or may not be a big deal, but you should at least consider how well the application you're using will integrate with other software applications you currently have. For example, once the screen-scraping application has extracted the data how easy is it for you to get to that data from your own code? When to use this approach: Screen-scraping applications vary widely in their ease-of-use, price, and suitability to tackle a broad range of scenarios. Chances are, though, that if you don't mind paying a bit, you can save yourself a significant amount of time by using one. If you're doing a quick scrape of a single page you can use just about any language with regular expressions. If you want to extract data from hundreds of web sites that are all formatted differently you're probably better off investing in a complex system that uses ontologies and / or artificial intelligence. For just about everything else, though, you may want to consider investing in an application specifically designed for screen-scraping.As an aside, I thought I should also mention a recent project we've been involved with that has actually required a hybrid approach of two of the aforementioned methods. We're currently working on a project that deals with extracting newspaper classified ads. The data in classifieds is about as unstructured as you can get. For example, in a real estate ad the term "number of bedrooms" can be written about 25 different ways. The data extraction portion of the process is one that lends itself well to an ontologies-based approach, which is what we've done. However, we still had to handle the data discovery portion. We decided to use screen-scraper for that, and it's handling it just great. The basic process is that screen-scraper traverses the various pages of the site, pulling out raw chunks of data that constitute the classified ads. These ads then get passed to code we've written that uses ontologies in order to extract out the individual pieces we're after. Once the data has been extracted we then insert it into a database.Todd Wilson is the owner of screen-scraper.com (http: / / www.screen-scraper.com), a company which specializes in data extraction from web pages.

***Software Review: Xsitepro Total Site Management Software***

It's not very often I get excited about a software program, but today I'm so excited I just had to tell you about Xsitepro, the top tool for Internet marketers. In particular, those who have been using HTML applications programs like Dreamweaver and Frontpage to produce their Internet media will find this program revolutionary in that it can at least halve your time for site development. In 1996 while studying a Master's degree in multimedia and online learning I learnt about HTML which seemed like a backward step after using and teaching word processing and programming in Pascal and DBIII+ (do you remember these?). MS Word and Wordperfect, even Multimate, were light years ahead of this HTML stuff. I remembered wondering why on earth anyone would design a programming language so simple and so time consuming to format. Shortly after, I was to find out why it was kept simple and I stumbled across Dreamweaver and Frontpage HTML generators. For years I've used both programs to produce my HTML email templates and Internet site pages.I've become fairly proficient using either, but as I have a preference for Dreamweaver, I've used that most often. In fact, just during the last few weeks I upgraded my site adding additional links, changing the banner heading, putting in some jump menus and generally making it more user friendly. Just after I finished a colleague brought my attention to the most innovative, useful, purpose-built software for Internet marketers I have ever seen - Xsitepro. And I've seen and purchased dozens. After reading every word of the sales blurb and watching the on site video "7 Reasons Why You Need Xsitepro", I decided I had to get a copy. As I usually do, I give software a good test run before the trial period or guarantee runs out and if it's not suitable I uninstall it and request a refund. No refund here. Xsitepro was easy to download and installed without a hitch. It comes with an excellent tutorial and an extensive user manual in Adobe PDF format, both of which are accessible from the Help menu. After working through the short tutorial, which steps you through building a site for an optometrist's store, it was very simple to get the program up and running. The user interface consists of tabs in a logical arrangement from left to right; start a project, enter the website description and keywords, project name, copyright information and any notes and click the next tab headed 'Page Layout'. Here, as the name suggests, you set up your standard page layout dimensions, graphics, menu and other features. It's a cinch. In the next tab, 'Web Pages' you enter your content in much the same way as you use a word processor - it's all what-you-see-is-what-you-get (wysiwyg) and very easy ... point and click for font sizes, to embolden, underline and so on.Now, I have to tell you, I was blown away by the sheer common sense concept behind this program (Why didn't I think of it?). It does almost everything an Internet marketer could want quickly, efficiently and professionally. If, like me, you are creating several sites selling different products or services and you intend to create numbers of additional sites, this is a product that will save you so much time you'll wonder what to do with yourself. Some of the excellent time-saving features included in Xsitepro are:
An affiliate link storage facility so that when you want to place an affiliate link you just right click and select and bingo, the link is in place
Point and click to install Google Adsense advertisement codes
Automatically break a long page into multiple pages and place navigation
Install a breadcrumb menu (obviously named after the Hansel and Gretel fable) that shows users where they are eg, Home -> Services -> Tooth Pulling and allows them to click on links to return to previous pages
Automatically create site maps in alphabetical or hierarchical view or links pages
Search engine optimization
Templates for articles, sales and product pages
... and much, much more. This program has you creating multiple sites within hours and publishing them using the FTP interface included. All of the graphics and associated files are placed in a folder so you don't have to hunt for them later. On the downside, if there is one, it takes a while to adapt to the way of working in Xsitepro. For example, working in tables in Xsitepro is quite different from working in tables with Dreamweaver. But, when you work out the differences you can move along quickly building, resizing, placing borders, colouring and inserting or deleting tables. The program has excellent flexibility and nothing has been missed.I was disappointed with the number of typos and other errors in the manual which were more numerous than I would have expected of such an excellent program, but it didn't detract from the instructional value of the content and is something that will no doubt be rectified in a future upgrade. It had all the appearances of being rushed together to meet a publishing deadline. The price for Xsitepro surprised me by being much lower than I thought could reasonably be charged for such a top application. And with the price come numbers of free upgrades. If you are doing what many Internet marketers are - including me - and building multiple streams of income using stand-alone themed sites, Xsitepro will be the best investment you could make to build and grow your business. This is a once-in-a-million software program that is set to change the face of Internet marketing. ***Unique New Software Shows Copywriters And Marketers What Their Visitors Do While On Their Pages***

A unique new piece of software was recently released by Life Art Marketing that will change the way marketers use their sales pages and web sites forever. Intra Trakker is a one of a kind page tracker. This little script allows any webmaster to see exactly where visitors are spending the most time and what parts they avoid. Virtually all web site owners can benefit from this software but nobody never seen it coming.Intra Trakker is an easy to use script that can be installed on any web host. Once installed Intra Trakker is installed it can track any web you own. To track a page you just have to add a snippet of code to the page. You can start tracking a new page in about three minutes.Once the page has been updated Intra Trakker will keep track of what parts of your page visitors focus on and parts they don't even look at. This information is visible to the page owner only through Intra Trakker's admin interface. The information is displayed via a bar on the left hand side that rates each part from green to red. Green indicates that the vast majority of visitors have spent a little time on that section. Red indicates that most all visitors did not see that section or simply skipped over it.Jambhala Rinpo from Joint Venture Network had this to say about Intra Trakker: "IntraTrakker is an ingenious tool that gives you an ability to track your visitors like nothing I've seen to date. This is an invaluable feedback tool that will save a lot of time in comparison to traditional trial and error testing. I'm sure all the experienced marketers out there will find this to be an invaluable testing tool for making better sales pages."There is no doubt that this tool is cutting edge and one of a kind. Just like with all new and unique products that have been released someone will make something similar with more features in the near future. A new door has been opened to internet marketers and nothing will ever be the same. This article origonally posted on http: / / www.guruofinfo.com

***4 Steps to Attract Site Visitors to Image Gallery***

By Eugene PaninIf you?re an owner of Internet Image Gallery, photolog or news site, you certainly want your visitors view inside your gallery but do not leave the site in 0.5 second right after they enter.
There is a one easy way to gain visitors attention to your gallery. Lets see why visitors leave sites so quickly, what kind of tools exist to keep visitors on the site and show an easy and effective way attract visitors by your image gallery.
If visitors view image gallery or not?Look at this statistics of two real sites: Site 1:Number of visits: 594 ? Average duration: 428 s
------------------------------------------------------------------
|Duration of Visits |Number of visits |Percentage of visits|
|--------------------|--------------------|-----------------------|
|0s-30s |360 |60.6 % |
|--------------------|--------------------|-----------------------|
|30s-2mn |32 |5.3 % |
|--------------------|--------------------|-----------------------|
|2mn-5mn |59 |9.9 % |
|---------------------|-------------------|-----------------------|
|5mn-15mn |60 |10.1 % |
-------------------------------------------------------------------Site 2: Number of visits: 1177 - Average: 226 s
------------------------------------------------------------------
|Duration of Visits |Number of visits |Percentage of visits|
|--------------------|--------------------|-----------------------|
|0s-30s |977 |83 % |
|--------------------|--------------------|-----------------------|
|30s-2mn |51 |4.3 % |
|--------------------|--------------------|-----------------------|
|2mn-5mn |43 |3.6 % |
|---------------------|-------------------|-----------------------|
|5mn-15mn |30 |2.5 % |
-------------------------------------------------------------------Tables show that 60-80% of visitors leave the site in 0.6 mins right after they enter one. It is arguable that the most of Internet site have the same statistics. Why this happens and how to pass this magical 0.5 mins?Visitor has entered the site, so he or she is interested in its theme and he or she is looking for the information mentioned as this site has. The visitor is from the target audience of the site. Why does he leave the site? The answer is simple: he or she can?t find information he needs. If information hidden from momentary view, for visitors it?s easier to leave the site instead of digging its depths. Visitor just closes the window and starts looking for the next site. How to gain visitor?s attention? What kind of information is interesting for site visitors? For sure, the photos themselves. So, the visitor just can?t find photos while browsing and therefore leaves the site. How to gain visitor?s attention to photos? The way is simple and very well known and used by all off and on-line media: nothing is more attractive but the nice photos at the first page! Nice looking pictures are the attractive tool that works anytime and anywhere. This method is a proven by numerous number of people. What kind of pictures can be placed at the first page of the gallery? The easiest and most beneficial way is to use pictures from the image gallery itself. If gallery has several sections, then it is possible to use different pictures for each section. To attract returning visitors, images should be periodically changed. Once per several minutes, once an hour or daily (to keep visitor?s eyes from design adaption).Attention gaining toolsLets see how technically implement image displaying on the site. This can be done manually but spend a lot of time and energy. The most easier way is to use a free web tools made especially for this aim. Spend a time once to install and completely forget about displaying images. There are a lot of web tools and each of them has different set of functions. How to choose the best one?? First, this tool should solve the main task ? can show pictures from several gallery sections and change them periodically.
? The second main factor is an easy installation and tuning procedure. The more easier this process, the better the tool.
? The third, but not the last one, is a technical implementation. Unfortunately this factor is hardly determined by the end user.Tools for gaining visitors attention to the image galleryThere was research of scripts presented in Internet. There are about ten versions. Some of them are too simple, others are too complex, and the last have a lot of features but require payment. Therefore a decision was made to create a FREE version of the script that has all required features, is easy to use and install, and implemented in high level object oriented architecture. The first version of the script? Shows randomly taken pictures from one or several sections.
? Rotate pictures once per day.
? Has unlimited number of sections, photos in the section, images per web page.Script installation as simple as 1-2-3:1. Unpack and copy script to the site.
2. Create one utility directory.
3. In configuration file, indicate the place where the image gallery stored with all required sections. In the nearest time will be available the next version of the script.
In the next version:? Additional rules of displaying images: in daily time intervals (for example: 10-12, 12-14, ?), in crontab ways (in any possible order based on time)
? Additional rules of getting images: in strongly defined sequence, ordered or random
? Securing images from stealing
? In addition, script can be used as a simple banner rotator
? Administrative shell to customize optionsTo use script ? Go to script?s home page at
http: / / www.usefulclasses.com / index.php?prc=readArticle&aid=potd
? Bookmark the page to get fresh script version later
? Download script for free from the pageSummary.
To attract visitors to the image gallery you would have to follow a few simple steps:
1. On the first page, use nice looking pictures gaining visitor?s attention
2. Take pictures from the gallery?s sections
3. Rotate pictures periodically
4. Use simple and free script to implement this features on the siteEugene Panin is the CEO of http: / / www.usefulclasses.com, a web application development company providing its services since 2002 having extensive experience in development of e-commerce (e-auctions, B2B-marketplaces and portals, e-shops) and other web applications (libraries, blogs, forums, guest books etc). ***10 Easy Tips to Help Improve Your Website's Performance***

Website performance is a reflection of the efficiency and credibility of your company or organization. From the most technical power users to people just learning how the Internet works, a slow website is a slow website.Sometimes the best way to avoid poor website performance is to create a checklist of things NOT to do.First, here are the quickest and easiest website performance killers. Any one of these five tips can significantly slow down your website:1. Don?t optimize any images. Many website images or graphics are un-optimized ? reduced in colors or density to ultimately reduce file size. Even with today?s blazing fast connections to the Internet, slowly loading images are noticeable. Images over 50KB in size should be optimized.2. Create long pages of seemingly endless text and images. Often seen as helpful to SEO, long web pages can take longer to load and incur more traffic between the web server and a web browser.3. Avoid cascading style sheets which can reduce page size and load time. Cascading style sheets also make it easier to create a consistent look-and-feel for your website.4. Use nested tables ? tables within tables ? to give the appearance of nothing happening when a web page is loading.5. Use frames. Frames are pages within pages that need to load as individual pages. Each frame requires a round-trip back to the web server which causes each URL to load slowly in the browser and creates more work for the web server.Next, here are some of the more subtle yet lethal ways to slow your website down:6. Open database connections but never close them. Database connections that are not properly closed, can hold on to system resources, i.e. memory, that can eventually lead to the entire server performing slowly or crashing.7. Don?t optimize database queries by testing them first or by using stored procedures. Ensure each database query is only returning the columns and rows needed and that the query itself has sub-second response time.8. Use lengthy comments in the HTML code which no one will ever see but will be loaded by the browser.9. Use java applets for unnecessary animation. While java applets can be useful, using them for showing a simple animation can be time consuming as the java compiler needs to load.10. Don?t monitor your website for performance trends of web page response times. Software to monitor website performance is widely available and can pinpoint the best and worst time periods that your website is responding. It can also alert you when your website is not responding at all.Copyright 2006 ExclamationSoftTim Hodgson manages software development for ExclamationSoft (www.ExclamationSoft.com ). ***Creating a Sitemap***

Sitemap is a way of informing the search engines about all the pages you have added on your website. Sitemaps are soon becoming important files to create to meet the search engines requirements. It?s very important to have a sitemap for your site. It?s the way of informing Google about your website, such as which pages are most important and which ones have been updated.Sitemap generators have been popping up on the web. Some sitemap generators are easy to use while some are very complex. You need to create three separate sitemaps for your website? Sitemap in html? Sitemap in xml? Sitemap in txtIf you are creating a sitemap for your website make sure you do not include folders or files you don?t want the search engines to see. Similarly make sure that there is no missing file or folder that you do not want the search engine to see. It is very important to be updated with your sitemap files especially if you have deleted or added any pages in your website. Similarly you also need to be updated about any changes you made in a particular web page.Google has come up with a new program for creating Sitemaps on every website. This new program is in the form of a python script that creates Sitemaps using the Sitemap Protocol. Google Sitemap Generator helps you create sitemaps from URL?s list, web server directories or by accessing logs.Google Sitemap Generator? If you are looking to install the Sitemap python script in your website make sure that your web server have Python 2.2 installed.? You also need to be familiar with the commands that launch Pythons.? You must also be aware of the different types of directory paths to your website.? You need to be able to upload files in your web server.? Finally you must have some knowledge about the encoding used for those logs and complete path to them.If you are looking for an effective tool to help you with your problems, we at Sitemap Builder are here to help you with all your problems. Sitemaps are an important and the most difficult file to create to meet the search engines requirements. Sitemaps are used by website owners to get their content recognized on the search engines. One of the distinctive feature of having sitemaps for website is that it can be read by human as well as the search engines.Sitemap generators have been popping up on the web every now and then. Some sitemap generators are easy to use while others are complex. Google too has come up with Google sitemap generators. However the Google sitemap is strictly for google and other search engines will not understand it.If you are creating a sitemap for your website make sure you do not include folders or files you don?t want the search engines to see. ***Don't Let the Internet Over Stimulate Your Mind***

It seems we have to become aware of a new problem that is starting to invade our modern, industrial society, that being the problem of over stimulation. The Internet is an excellent tool but we have to remember that the mind is the most valuable tool imaginable. Some would argue that spirit or soul is of equal or more importance, I am not disagreeing with these people. The point that I am attempting to put forward for discussion is that although the Internet is an excellent new medium that can affect nearly all aspects of life in a positive way, like all things in existence it too has a shadow side. Over stimulation of the mind is a huge cloud in the blue sky of consciousness.Have you ever sat at your desk searching through the Web for News information, then checking your emails with their accompanying attachments and links, and then doing general searches for random information? If you receive newsletters, or subscribe to blogs, you read these daily as well. The human mind is powerful, and scientists say that we only use an average of 10 % of it, but doesn't that entail that we should be careful not to overload its present information processing capabilities?I've read that in one New York Times newspaper there is more information to digest than one would have had to process in a whole lifetime of the Shakespearean era. With the advent of the Internet we have more access to knowledge and opinion than ever previously. We have to be cautious my friends. I personally have had to come to the realization that my spiritual, mental, physical and emotional health is of more importance than all other things in life. If I work too hard, or try to read too much, my mind starts to weigh down with all the thoughts that are produced with each and every tidbit of communication that I take in. After a while I sometimes feel like there is a giant cloud inside my mind and I no longer feel confident to do the daily activities that are required of me as a committed team player of our society. So what's the solution? Well, like all things in life solutions are often more simple than we could ever have hoped for. We just have to keep our eyes open to grasp the answers that are presented to us as opportunities everyday. Make a note when you are feeling bogged down and tired and think about how much information you have tried to compute in that moment. Give yourself time limits and a designated number of searches and downloads for a day. You can learn to take more breaks and find anecdotal means to sift through the information, or even block out all the stimuli in that break period.Gardening, meditation, stretches, breathing exercises, tai chi, yoga, cooking, sports, music...all of these are options to undertake when you want to get away from the noise of too many 'voices'.The Internet is an awesome idea that has come to fruition. Like all tools and mediums of interaction it must be used mindfully, with care for the user as first priority. You would never use a power saw without gloves, boots, and ear and eye protection. You could lose a finger...you've heard the horror stories. Well the Internet hasn't really been around long enough for too many stories to be circulating, and I think its negative effects could be more subtle than my example, but the case at hand is that we must be very careful how we interact with the world around us.If we are all walking the streets with giant nebulous nimbus clouds in our minds, there is bound to be trouble.Jesse S. ***Network Monitoring for Serious eCommerce*** In the real w unimarter UniMarter
***Network Monitoring for Serious eCommerce***

In the real world, businesses come in every size, from self-employed entrepreneurs like me to mega malls like Wal-Mart.On the Internet, companies come in every size, too, from a stand-alone ebook sales page with webmaster and owner all in one, to 300 pound gorilla like Amazon, with over a million pages requiring the entire population of a small country to serve as webmaster. If your site is a single page, it is its own network. But if your site is any bigger, and you have plans to grow, it is a network or is fast becoming one. You need network monitoring. Most ecommerce webmasters are at least somewhat familiar with website monitoring. Many use a website monitoring service or software to keep track of "uptime" and "downtime".At your local shopping mall, serious business requires more than just knowing when the front doors are open and when they are closed. Serious ecommerce needs to know more than just when the site is accessible. That is what network monitoring is all about.Chances are, your e-business owns one of the following, or uses one of the following remotely:DNS servers: These are used to translate your site name, like www.mycompany.com, to the numbers called "IP addresses" that computers understand. If DNS servers are not working properly, end-users will not be able to find your site and will get an error. Usually only an external or remote monitoring service will detect such a problem. An FTP server: File Transfer Protocol servers are used to help you exchange files with remote users. If you use FTP, a monitoring service can make sure it is always up and running.POP3 and SMTP servers: These are used for exchanging emails. If you are using email, chances are you are using SMTP and POP3. If your SMTP server is down, everyone who sends you email will receive an error, stating that your mail server is down and cannot accept incoming email. To say that the impression this leaves your customers is bad would be an understatement. If your POP3 server is down, you will be unable to retrieve email from your mailbox. Once again, only external monitoring will prevent such a problem.Firewalls: Many businesses use firewalls to protect their internal network from un-authorized traffic, such as spyware, viruses and sabotage by competitors. Furthermore, a firewall is your first line of defense. If your firewall goes down, your whole network may actually become inaccessible from outside. In other words, if you host your own web site and mail servers, those will become inaccessible to the outside world if your firewall goes down. Once again, remote network monitoring is required to detect that a problem exists and quickly get it repaired.Internet connections: Users come to your network from multiple backbones, depending on the company they use to connect to the Internet and their location. It is important to ensure that your connection performs well for each user. A remote monitoring service can ping your networks from multiple locations around the world, thus testing most major routes to your web server or network. Before hiring a network monitoring service, check to see that they have both your customer geography and the Internet backbone layout covered.Very few websites of any size and functionality are anything less than a complete network, and many networks rely on servers in different parts of the world.A good network monitoring service can ensure, as a base, that all servers are properly functioning, that data can be sent to and received from each server, and that each function sharing the server responds as required. An advanced network monitoring service can even remotely monitor the temperature of your servers. What you need to monitor depends on how extensive your network is. A network monitoring expert can help you determine what needs monitoring. If you own the servers, or are remotely hosted on dedicated servers, you most likely need everything monitored. If your site is hosted on shared servers, you might need fewer functions monitored.About The AuthorDavid Leonhardt is a freelance writer and SEO consultant. ***Be Careful When Following the Crazy Yellow Brick Link Trail***

Links, what are they? When you go to a web site, links are the little bits of information that when clicked on will take you to another website of similar context. The thing is, with these strange and mysterious human minds of ours that we know so little about, these links if navigated subconsciously can take one to places of information you normally would never travel to. You could start out in the light and end up in a black hole. Let me give you an example of a trail I recently traveled without really thinking. The other day I decided to search for a web site about one of my all time favorite musicians, Arlo Guthrie. Arlo Guthrie is a folk musician, son of another famous musician Woody Guthrie. When I was a little kid, one of the coolest things to do was to listen to his story / song entitled ?The Motorcycle Song?. So, I found his personal website through a Google search and it was pretty cool, and very positive. Guthrie runs a charity organization and a multi-religious church center where money is raised to help people with illnesses as well as giving less fortunate people a place to pray, meditate or just get off the streets. So, I?m reading all about Arlo in his biography and there?s a link to his court statement at the famous Chicago Seven court case. Well, as I?m a young guy I had never heard of this case, my curiosity was piqued and I clicked on the link. Next I was reading Arlo?s funny comments about the time he was arrested for disposing of garbage in an illegal area on Thanksgiving because the dump was closed. Of course if you know about Guthrie you?d know that his famous song ?Alice?s Restaurant? was based on this story. I get to the finish of the court transcript and there?s a link for the ?Famous Trials? web site that the Chicago Seven trial was a page of.Not thinking, I click on the site and start to absent-mindedly scan through all the famous court cases listed. Remember, I was originally looking up my old buddy Arlo, now I?m in a world of laws and crime. Well, I come across this crazy looking face: Charles Manson, and for some unknown unconscious reason I click on his court case. I didn?t know much about the guy, but maybe because both my parents are x-hippies and he was from their era?Now I?m spending an hour of my time (and nothing is more valuable than time, except love and peace) reading about the gruesome murders of Manson?s Family as his group of devoted followers was called. I didn?t consider myself interested in this sort of evil stuff, and still don?t, as my feeling after the experience was one of distaste, sadness and plain wonder as to how people can do these sorts of negative actions. In the end, following the absent-minded link trail led me to a place so much darker than where I started. I don?t know if I ever would have spent an hour of my life reading about Charles Manson otherwise. It?s not my cup of tea you know. I?m into peaceful music, humorous novels, Tai Chi and foreign films. This can be taken as a sign that we must be careful, conscious and alert when we are searching the Internet. It is such a huge mass of information, and like all things in existence has its dark side as well as its light. Be careful Dorothy, the yellow brick link trail can lead to the wicked witch as well as the wonderful world of Oz.Jesse S. Somer, M6.Net

***CompTIA Network+ Certification Exam Tutorial: Hot Sites, Warm Sites, and Disaster Recovery***

Part of passing the Network+ exam and being an outstanding network administrator is being prepared for disaster. Sometimes that's a disaster on a relatively small scale, such as a drive failure. If you're running data backups on a regular basis (and you are, aren't you?), you're prepared for that issue. What is your network's disaster recovery plan from a true disaster, either natural or man-made? What if the entire building your servers are in disappeared tonight? What is your plan if that happens? In today's world, that's not a rhetorical question. Disaster recovery is taken to the next level by preparing a cold site, warm site, or hot site at another physical location.A hot site is the highest level of disaster preparedness. Hot sites are maintained by commercial companies for their customers, and these sites include everything from the office space itself all the way through telephone and computer equipment. The servers at the hot site will be mirrors of the servers at the primary location. Basically, your staff walks in and gets right to work.Hot sites are very expensive to maintain. An alternative is a cold site. Cold sites will have the physical devices necessary to get up and running again, but they're not configured or mirrored from the primary site. This is much cheaper than maintaining a hot site, but obviously a lot of work needs to be done before work can continue after a disaster, and this is time many corporations, government offices, and public utility companies cannot spare in such a situation. There is a middle ground, the appropriately named warm site. Warm sites are going to have all the physical equipment needed along with some of the servers configured and maintained. Disaster recovery using a warm site will still take longer than if a hot site were maintained, but basic communications are back in place much more quickly than if a cold site were used. The "mission critical" servers will be ready to go, but secondary servers will need to be brought up to date through data restores from backups. You have to know about these sites to pass the CompTIA Network+ certification exam, but the stakes are much higher than that. If you're not the person in charge of network disaster recovery, find out who is and ask if any of these sites are being kept by your company. The better informed you are now, the better you'll be ready to get to work at such a crucial time.Chris Bryant, CCIE #12933 , is the owner of The Bryant Advantage, home of over 100 free certification exam tutorials, including CCNA and CCNP tutorials.CompTIA Network+, Security+, and A+ certification tutorials are available, also!Visit his blog and sign up for Certification Central, a daily newsletter packed with CCNA, Network+, Security+, A+, and CCNP certification exam practice questions! and now a month into using it I am really starting to appreciate it. If
you don't feel like using a simple page development tool and binding
pages together by hand, then you should look at a CMS system. From what
I've found, Joomla seems to be moving forward the quickest. I am
currently using version 1.0.11 which is the latest of the 1.0 line.

Never use 1.0 software, that's what people will tell you and for
the most part, that's true. However in the case of Joomla we must
remember (or perhaps it's my job to educate you) that Joomla's roots
(at least the 1.0 version) are in another CMS system Mambo. In fact, if
you are familiar with Mambo, Joomla will be second nature (and the
other way around).

Joomla is organized in menus, sections, catagories and items. It
fits together kind of like this (general, remember this isn't a book,
it's an article). A menu can link to a section, category or item in a
number of ways (table, list, etc). A section can link to a category. A
category can link to a number of items. So, if you need to organize
your website by menu's or tabs, this is ideal. Of course there is much
more to joomla than that, but that is the first thing you'll end up
doing...just like I did.

Joomla extensions, templates, plug-ins, components
One of
the things I love about Joomla is the wide assortment of plugins and
templates available for it, both commercial and free. I found a site,
joomlahacks.com which has a ton of these things (over 200 freely
downloadable templates). I found one that was appropriate for each of
my sites and with a little modification (you are allowed to modify most
templates as they're part of the GPL) GNU Public License, or LGPL
(lesser GNU public license).

Components that I am using are the metataggenerator component
(downloaded) and the SEO component (allowing more google readable url's
for my web site. Also, like I said I'm using a differently downloaded
(and personally modified) template for each of my sites. My sites are
Christmas, Recipes and Travel. There are a couple more, but why go into
those details.

If you go to joomla.org, you can actually test drive the software. I did this
before setting up the christmas site. I wanted to be sure that joomla was right for me.
They've set up a joomla based server and give you a demo account to
play with. This is great to get a feel for the software. I think the
site gets reset every 30 minutes or something, so don't expect your
content to stay there. Also, please please refrain from spamming on
this website! The joomla folks have been good enough to give us a great
product and let us try it out live, please don't take advantage of
their good nature by putting spam up there.

Which technologies does Joomla use
You could also call this section "what does my webserver / hosting
package need to run joomla"?

- PHP, joomla is a PHP based system. If you don't know what PHP is, you
should search around a bit. It's a language for web development (I
believe loosly based on perl) which can have html embedded in it. I
personally compare it to Java jsp's. I needed to do a bit of PHP modification on the travel and
recipe sites to make things fit properly, but this is not the fault of the original templates or Joomla, I
just wanted a bit of a different look.

- MySQL, joomla needs access to a mysql database. It's installs will
create it's own tables, but of course you need to have the appropriate
permissions to do this.

That's it...although, if it is running on an apache web server it also
makes the SEO stuff work better as you can (possible depending on your
hosting) change the .htaccess file to rewrite urls appropriately.

Linux makes a nice joomla platform, but there's no reason why it can't
run on any platform which has the above capabilities.
