*** Dezinformacja i fake newsy zagrożeniem dla demokracji i biznesu. Świadomość tego problemu wśród społeczeństwa jest coraz większa ***

– Trzeba wrócić do dyskusji nad wprowadzeniem w szkołach edukacji medialnej.

W kwietniu ubiegłego roku Komisja Europejska opublikowała dokument, który zawiera propozycje konkretnych działań wymierzonych w zjawisko fake newsów (m.in. kontrola reklam, oznaczanie treści sponsorowanych, wspieranie edukacji medialnej i wysokiej jakości dziennikarstwa).

Wskazała w nim konkretne działania do realizacji dla unijnych instytucji i państw członkowskich (np. stworzenia Rapid Alert System – systemu szybkiego ostrzegania przed kampaniami dezinformacyjnymi).

***Condi: The Condoleeza Rice Story***

I had the satisfaction the other day of having finished a book. Yes, you would think that those of us who write for a living would be great readers. Some of us are, some of us aren?t. I probably am fairly well read overall, but that covers magazines, newspapers, articles, and the like for the most part?especially if they can be found online! My wife picked up a book for me this past Christmas and she hit it right on the mark ? Condi: The Condoleeza Rice Story. Written by Antonia Felix, the book traces the remarkable life of now Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice from her days living in highly segregated Birmingham, Alabama during the 1950s and 1960s through her years as an academic scholar, college professor, and university provost, all the way up to her present work with the Bush Administration. Written in 2003, the book still has Condi as National Security Advisor to the president, but in 2004 Condi replaced Colin Powell as the Secretary of State. The book delves into Condi?s life and doesn?t hold back on much. No, not much to criticize about this consummate overachiever, rather plenty of praise for a role model who has triumphed in the face of overwhelming odds, let alone overwhelming adversity.Condi is not just a leading scholar, but she is an expert in Soviet {Russian} affairs, an accomplished pianist, and an avid football fan. Driven? Oh, yes! But, not in the ?possessed? or ?obsessed? sense of the word. As a black woman working in a mostly white male environment Condi has established herself on her terms and not on someone else?s. ?Twice as good? was the mantra passed down to Condi by her parents who believed that black children had to do everything twice as well as white children in order to be considered equal in a segregated society.I won?t give all the details of the book away, but there are some highly interesting aspects about Condi that some people probably just don?t know. Personally, I don?t think Condi will run for president on the Republican ticket in 2008 as some desire ? instead, she aspires to be president of the NFL ? but whatever Condi chooses to do beyond her time working with President Bush will more than likely include breaking new ground and setting the trend for all who come behind her.Copyright 2006 ? ***Invisible Ink - Book Review***

Carl Veno?s book, Invisible Ink, provides an insider?s view of
the newspaper world during the author?s 25-years as a
journalist and editor - at a time when major events were
having dramatic affects on American society. Told in a
no-nonsense matter-of-fact manner, the tales of experience
are intermingled with the author?s family history, including
the immigration of his Italian ancestors to America more
than 125 years ago. Reminiscent moments clearly reveal
Carl?s fond memories of growing up and his youthful love of
New York.Various newspaper readership "wars" were destroying and
absorbing each other during an incredible age of change
and discovery for the American people. Exciting and
newsworthy issues including men and women learning to
co-exist in the workplace, mobsters, racism, riots, war and
space travel were fighting for newspaper space. Between all
this the author reveals inner office politics within the
industry. We all know from our own experience, differences
occur at places of employment ? management issues,
co-worker competition, etc. ? and it is all here. Yet on top of
this the reader is introduced to interesting and eccentric
characters, complicated work-related relationships and
office love affairs. The epilogue closes nicely with the fate of
some of the newspapers mentioned in the book.Prior to entering the world of journalism, Carl spent time as
a barber, boxer and army trooper. Not including his
free-lance work and lecturing, Veno was employed by eight
newspapers (some of which won many awards) and was
nominated for the Pulitzer Prize during his career. Carl is
now retired and able to pursue his love of exercise through
jogging and continues to write books.ISBN#: 1-4137-4881-3

***Are You Good-Looking Enough For Your Job?***

Beauty has muscle. Beauty captures our attention and pulls us in?Beauty is only skin deep, but it counts almost for everything. Especially , within the first few seconds of meeting a prospect. Most, if not all of the time, we take things at face value. Here are a few examples:1) You buy the ?orange-ist' orange ? even though you know they've probably been sprayed with chemicals to look that way.2) Your mouth waters as you stumble across a succulent joint of lamb in a Sunday supplement ? even though you know it's probably been lightly ?dusted' in creosote to look that way.3) Your attention is drawn to a lithe, tanned young thing on the TV screen ? even though? see 1 above. We take things at face value? And so do your prospects.A colleague of mine is an N.L.P expert, and I mean EXPERT. He has spent years and years learning and developing his skills. Pouring over books, attending seminars, taking exams? He's worked closely with Paul McKenna? He's a Master's Masters N.L.P instructor (or something or other), and yet? He struggles to find clients. Why?Well one major reason it that he doesn't LOOK like an expert. People judge and they don't see beyond the clothes, the haircut and the bad time keeping. And so he doesn't get hired. Totally unjustified, but true? You could say he's a ?green' orange*.It doesn't matter how good you look on the inside - your prospects judge the ?packaging' first. So are you good looking enough for your job? Or in other words? Are you looking good enough for your job?*Ethylene is used commercially to degreen oranges, however, it is for cosmetic reasons because oranges can be fully ripe even if they are green on the outside. ***Jolly Rancher Soda Review***

Jolly Rancher Soda is a new beverage derived form the very popular Jolly Rancher Candy.Jolly Rancher Soda is currently available in 5 flavors:
-Green Apple
-Raspberry
-Watermelon
-Grape
-OrangeIt comes in 20 oz plastic bottles, 24 to a case. You can find photos and specifications at http: / / www.NewSodas.comThe soda truly smells and tastes like Jolly Rancher Candy. All you have to do is taste it and you?ll be hooked. From the moment you open it you get the smell of the candy. It brings back memories! Jolly Rancher has been around since 1949. Almost everyone remembers the candy from their childhood. Some of us still buy it today. You can find the new beverage in convenience stores across the USA although not every city has them right now. If you have questions or would like to comment about the soda there is a blog available at http: / / www.newsodas.com / JollyRancherSodaBlog.html---About the Beverage Industry and Sodas---The soda industry has become stagnant while the new age beverage category (energy drinks, flavored waters) is exploding and still growing at double digit numbers. This new trend to launch not only new sodas under an existing name brand is working, especially in this case where the name brand is one of the oldest and most recognized in the candy industry like Jolly Rancher. In our taste tests kids were attracted to the vivid colors and sweet taste. Adults immediately recognized the name brand and most of them expressed their delight when they saw the product. They could not believe their eyes, a new product from their favorite candy.Jolly Rancher soda is already available for national distribution and you can contact the phone number below for more information. For distributors and retailers the largest advantage is the name brand recognition. ?It?s an instant name brand? said Carlos Lopez of NewSodas.com, who currently markets the brand for the manufacturer. Distributors automatically know what it is and recognize the brand. Even if they have not seen the product they immediately want to carry it. They see the power of the name.NewSodas.com is currently marketing and selling Jolly Rancher Soda to Retailers and Beverage Distributors. ***How To Submit Network News Video Clip Footage In 3 Steps***

Has this ever happened to you? You're standing on a busy street corner, minding your own business, when all of a sudden a masked gunman comes running out of a nearby bank with the cops in hot pursuit. Luckily, you have your video cell phone and capture the whole scene on video. But how would you submit network news video clip footage like this to ABC, CBS, NBC, or Fox?Being in the right place at the right time armed with a video cellphone when something newsworthy occurs means you could potentially reap some financial rewards. Did you know that news organizations pay handsomely for exclusive video like this?So what do you do now that you've captured some great video or picture with your cell phone? There are basically three steps to take if you want to get paid for the video footage you have shot. Edit, upload, and announce it to the media. Most video cellphones come with movie editing software built-in (or packaged with the phone). Even if the bundled software is sub-par (which it usually is) there are many off-the-shelf software solutions that can enhance the quality and reduce the file size of the video you have captured.Remember, you do not want to manipulate the video extensively, since this will jeopardize the 'man on the street' quality that the news networks are looking for. Besides, the news stations have much more sophisticated software than you could probably afford to massage your video into the desired format, length and content. You probably don't need to do much to your raw video footage except reduce the length of the clip to the smallest size. This is important because you don't want to pay to upload your video and the free video hosting services only give you so much storage space that can quickly run out if you are uploading large files.Next, you need to upload your video to an online video sharing service. There are bunch of these available, some offering a meager amount of free storage and charging extra for larger portions of space. Other services limit the amount of bandwidth your video can consume. This means the number of people that can watch your video at one time is limited. After choosing a suitable place to host your newsworthy video, you need to tell the news broadcasters about it. In whatever city you live in, there are local news affiliates that are part of larger news organizations like Fox News or ABC. You can easily determine which news stations are in your area by turning on a TV and seeing what the call-letters are for your local broadcast news stations.Once you have the call-letters (for example, WABC) then simply go online and do a search for those call-letters in your favorite search engine. Once you find the web site for that broadcaster, navigate to the page on the site that has a link for submitting breaking news and supply the basic information that applies to your video, such as a description and the URL of the video where you uploaded it.Aaron Benbaruch knows the ins and outs of submitting breaking news captured by citizen journalists. To instantly submit newsworthy video and pictures to all the TV News Broadcasters for free, visit submit news clip

***Read This Article if You are Tired of Network TV***

Are you getting tired of the Network TV shows; are you bothered by the rapid pace of the news? Do you ever really want to hear what someone being interviewed has to say, but then they cut the poor SOB off mid-sentence, slam their comments and go to commercial break? Are we watching the news or is it simply setting us up to watch the commercials and if so, why do we participate in this charade? If you watch some of the network TV stuff you have to wonder what on Earth is going on, do they even care about bringing us meaningful content or is it all about ?Shock and Ah!?Do they get away with this format because they merely realize that humans are basically brain dead and surrender their minds to the boob tube each night and merely wish to be entertained with bright lights, flashing screens, chaos and controversy? It is a G-Darn circus. For those who say they are well informed or know about what is going on from their skewed liberal written local newspaper, NYT or the TV news; well they are merely full of themselves.Let?s face it folks you are not going to get to the bottom of any issue or news watching network Television News. Indeed if you read the newspaper, well it is so liberally skewed, that it is not bathed in any real since of reality. The opinions you have are therefore irrelevant, meaning your vote is worthless and your mind is warped. Welcome to the brain dead masses. Think on it, if you are able.Lance Winslow

***What if Television Commercials Were Not Synchronized?***

Have you been noticing now if you have Satellite Television that the commercials are synchronized so you are forced to watching them? If you leave one channel for another then there is another commercial break there on that station too? Lately with these vie to seven minute segment on the News Channels they give you two stories under rapid fire, never give you the whole new then the commercial break with some great story up next, trying to get you to wait and watch the commercials?Have you also noticed that they keep re-running the news but keep telling you to wait for some late breaking new? It?s like d?j? vu already and they do this everyday. That is enough to make anyone upset along with these synchronized commercial breaks. Now you can buy a system to stop and record the show and then go back later and fast forward thru those commercials for a FEE! Great a new service to block the commercials, when you use to be able to vote with your TV Clicker, but now you have to wait or pay?Well, you know what I have better things to do than to watch commercials all day especially when I am paying for satellite TV already. This is getting to be aggravating indeed. I ask you; What if Television Commercials Were Not Synchronized? It is time to turn that thing off it is melting our brains and not that I do not care about the Girl in Aruba, but for god?s sakes give me some news. Think on it.Lance Winslow

***Television Polls Are Worthless***

Have you ever noticed that the Television News networks will pick a topic on the news and run with it, then repeat their information, re-interview the same people over and over again and just when you think you want to flip the channel; well they start interviewing each other; that is to say reporters interviewing reporters.Sometimes they interview celebrities to find out what they think, as if anyone cares? It seems the publicists for all the famous actors and actresses are in bed with the network news agencies and they just keep running the news story for as long as people will listen. Then the graphics change and you would swear you are watching a Lazarium Show or an award winning website ?Flash? creation? With sounds, graphics and fade ins like some sort of high-tech 360 X Box with a Holographic Chip in the middle of your living room? It seems as if the news has become pure unadulterated entertainment. In fact they show so many graphics there is little time for the actual seven-minute segment on whatever the story is? And of course they have to cut off every guest merely so that they can show you the graphics? What about the news, then again one has to ask the obvious question; what news? After that whirlwind of visual sensation is over; they pitch you to stay tuned with a ?Flash Bulletin? which always turns out to be a re-run of the news you heard earlier in the day, perhaps less than an hour ago? It reminds me of the Casinos, where humans sit and feed quarters into machines mesmerized by the flashing lights and sounds? After they tell you what the news is, why you should care about the story and how they feel about it and you should feel about it. They hook you into the next segment with a sound bite; ?Stay tune for the polls on the last story!!!?Since all those humans still watching at that point have had their visual fill of stimulation and brain washing, do you ever wonder what those polls say? They always come out exactly the same as the way the particular network slanted the story. I therefore ask; What good are TV news polls anyway? Think on it; if you have any cranial capacity still working up there?Lance Winslow

***Xbox 360 Camera On The Way Soon***

The Xbox 360 camera was unveiled at last year's E3 alongside the system and it was shown that the camera would be used for a variety of purposes. Rumors are now spreading that Microsoft has shown the camera off to developers recently in hopes that they will use it to develop games via an Eye-Toy type experience or something even more advanced. If this holds true we could be using the camera in games within the coming few months! The only purpose thus far that has been shown to developers it seems to show off the technology has been that of a video chat over Xbox Live. This is actually a cool idea because if you could use the camera in conjunction with a live arcade game, something simple like Chess, it could make for a relaxing social experience for the casual fan over Xbox Live. The new camera is expected to be availble within the next few months.Regardless one thing is for sure, the camera is on its way very soon and I would not be surprised if Microsoft shows off a few games to go along with it at this year's E3. ***Will The Nintendo Revolution Be Able to Out Sell The Xbox 360 And PS3?***

Despite the fact that many perceive Nintendo to be on the downturn in the video game industry, enthusiasts of the popular company will be happy to hear that the latest news is of exactly the opposite. The latest release of financial statements from Nintendo shows that the company has actually seen growth rather than any sort of decline.According to the company's financial statements, the consolidated net profit for October-December rose to ?55.56 billion ($479.7 million) as compared to ?21.3 billion for the same period last year. For the nine months ending December 31st, the company posted a net profit of ?92.2 billion ($801 million) up from ?67.8 billion for the same time frame in the previous fiscal year, a 36% increase. However, news like this still doesn?t sway people like the CEO of 3D Realms, Scott Miller, who says, "My prediction for this new round of consoles is that the Xbox 360 and PS3 will wind up about equal in terms of sales, with Nintendo's Revolution coming in a distant third," Miller writes. "Perhaps this will be the last console from [Nintendo]."Will the Nintendo Revolution truly be Nintendo?s last console or are they just ingenious and we haven?t realized it yet? ***PS3 And Nintendo Revolution May Launch American Thanksgiving***

Could the Nintendo Revolution and the PS3 launch the same time? It?s beginning to look more and more likely. Both Nintendo and Sony have been less than forthcoming with any real concrete information. Rumors have set release dates anywhere from March to sometime next year. However, the latest rumors have both consoles to launch around American Thanksgiving.Nintendo is planning on releasing their ?revolutionary? new system this fall, near Thanksgiving to be precise. This release date is drawn from new quotes from Nintendo president Satoru Iwata who stated, "We can't disclose the Revolution's release period yet, but we have no plans to miss out on the year-end sales battle. As for North America, we need to release it by Thanksgiving, or otherwise we won't receive support from the retail industry. So the Revolution will be released prior to that period."In regards to the issue of when the Sony PS3 will launch, Forbes Magazine said: "Sony's last word on this remains spring 2006, but almost nobody believes it ? at least not for the North American launch ? because of a history of delays for previous products. Thanksgiving looks to be a better bet, at least to Evan Wilson, an analyst with Pacific Crest Securities."Could we see both the Nintendo Revolution and the PS3 this thanksgiving? What kind of marketing strategy would this be? Microsoft was fortunate to launch their Xbox 360 with absolutely no competition. The head-start allowed the 360 to gain ground on the competition; however because of massive shortages, only 600,000 consoles have been sold so far.If both the Nintendo Revolution and the PS3 launch this thanksgiving they will not have the same luxury. Instead, all 3 consoles will have to split the market share.By June of this year, Microsoft hope to sell 4.5 to 5 million Xbox 360?s worldwide. That means both Nintendo and Sony will have a lot of catching up to do. It would seem to delay the launch of either console to 2007 would be a marketing nightmare, no matter how impressive the Revolution controller is, or how powerful the PS3 might be. Peter Moore of Microsoft has recently said that they ?will pull Halo 3 when the time is right,? which many believe will happen alongside the PS3 launch. It seems unlikely that both consoles will launch the same time. Perhaps the Revolution will see a mid to late September launch while the PS3 takes the November slot (or even later). It is this author?s opinion that both consoles will hit the shelves 2006. Though the question remains, when? For more news, check out our Xbox 360 site or our Nintendo Revolution site.

***Microsoft Has A Plan For The Xbox 360***

In an interesting article from Fool.Com entitled ?Why the Xbox 360 Is a Loser,? author Seth Jayson points out that the Xbox 360 is costing Microsoft big money. The article discusses how the Xbox 360 is part of a much larger plan that, if successful, will eventually lead to profits. It is no secret; Microsoft is losing money and lots of it on the Xbox 360. Microsoft?s home-and-entertainment division has already lost $293 million on $1.57 billion in sales. And as Jayson points out, the more popular the console becomes, the greater the loss.?Make no mistake: For now, and for the foreseeable future, the Xbox 360 is going to cost Microsoft money. The consoles are sold at a loss, and the costs of launching the new system will continue to grow. The more popular the Xbox 360 becomes, the bigger the losses will be.? commented Seth Jayson in his article. The reason being is two fold. Microsoft is in a ?marathon, not a sprint? to beat Sony (PS3) and more importantly, to be #1 in the yet undefined home media PC market.Down the road Microsoft will be able to build revenue from video game sales, entertainment purchases, license fees, Internet advertising, and revenue from developing products for your living roomBut for the time being, the loss has investors wondering if the media giant is moving in the right direction.Only time will tell whether-or-not the long term plan will pay off. To be successful, Microsoft will have to depend on many factors, with one of the most important being, plenty of 3rd party support. For more news, check out our Xbox 360 site or our Nintendo Revolution site.

***The Nintendo Revolution Controller - Skepticism Meets Reality* unimarter UniMarter
***The Nintendo Revolution Controller - Skepticism Meets Reality***

Well over the past week or so I have had plenty of time to sit back and take a critical look at the new Nintendo Revolution controller. Initially, when I first saw the teaser I was excited about the possibilities the new controller offered. However after some more reflection and further reading, though I am still enthusiastic, I think there are some serious questions that need to be asked.Nintendo has been an innovator in the video game industry since the early 1980?s. From the very beginning, Nintendo engineers have had to prove themselves. The introduction of the analogue controller and even the ?rumble pack? was met with a great deal of skepticism, yet are considered industry standards today. However, a single hand remote style controller is arguably a much larger innovation and is met with even more skepticism. It has been reported on several websites that the Nintendo Revolution will be compatible with Gamecube titles. Of course this raises questions on how the new controller will function with these games? What we are telling people right now is that there are several peripherals in the works that will be used for the older games,? said Perrin Kaplan, vice President of Marketing and Corporate Affairs for Nintendo. ?Of course, people will be able to plug their Gamecube controller right in and use that, but if they want, they can use the Revolution?s peripherals for an entirely new and fresh experience.?Will gamers be able to adapt to a single hand controller? I think the answer to this question will depend on game developers. The success of the controller and the console for that matter depends on whether-or-not game developers will be able to produce games which compliment the new controller. This also raises questions over game cross-over from one system to another. With the introduction of a whole new controller, effectively changing the way we play games, well we see a drop in big title games available for multiple systems? With the release of the new teaser and a slew of new images, people are forgetting that the new Nintendo Revolution controller is not at the final design stage.?No, this is not the final design. You won?t see that until the release is here, but we are getting much closer,? explained Kaplan.Over the next several months, more information will become available. Information which will either put much of the skepticism to rest, or more likely, create even more. With a product like the Nintendo Revolution controller, apprehension and skepticism are natural, making this a critical time for Nintendo. With the release of the Xbox before the end of 2005 and the processing power of the Playstation 3 Nintendo really does have to come up with something revolutionary to compete in the next generation game console market. Does Nintendo really have something special for us? Only Time well tell. For more great gaming information, check out this great Xbox News or check out this great Nintendo Revolution resources

***Nintendo Revolution Price***

While on my constant search for new Nintendo Revolution information, I came across some articles speculating the European release date and price tag for Nintendo?s next generation gaming console. Of course, this is only a ?rumor,? and I have not confirmed the date, or the price in any official capacity.Amazon France has slipped a page with the European release date and price for Nintendo?s monumental new game console, the Nintendo Revolution. The tentative release date for the Nintendo Revolution is listed as June 15, 2006. The total cost after conversion to US dollars, would be approximately $365. European game console prices tend to be a bit priced a higher than in North America, but this still sounds a bit overpriced given the Xbox?s $299-$399 price tag. From what we know so far the Nintendo Revolution will be less technologically advanced than the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3.Based on the GameCube?s 2001 launch cycle?it arrived in Europe six months after it debuted in North America. This leak gives credence to rumors that the Revolution could see a surprise 2005 launch in Canada and the US.Of course, when more ?official? information is available for both the release date and price, htt: / / www.nintendorevolution.ca will let you know. For more great gaming information, check out this great Xbox News site or check out this great Nintendo Revolution resources http: / / www.nintendorevolution.ca

***Generation Laptop***

In May 2005 U.S hardware history was made. This was the first time that laptops sold more than desktop computers in a single month. Indeed, Current Analysis, an innovative research firm headquartered in Sterling, Virginia, confirmed that laptop sales leapt to 53.3 per cent of the total PC retail market in May 2005.Were these figures just a blip on the the computer sales radar? Let your own eyes answer that question for you - Folks using laptops are everywhere! - People checking their emails in coffee shops, students studying interactively in the classroom, business men and women compiling data reports on planes and trains. So, what current factors contribute to the massive popularity of laptops with the computer buying public?AFFORDABILITYFive years ago, you could walk into a computer store with four thousand dollars, and emerge bow legged, carrying a bulky notebook computer the size of a sewing machine - about as cutting edge as grandpa's pipe and smoking jacket. Today you can pick up a Compaq NX6125 from HP, equipped with a biometric fingerprint reader, 60GB hard drive, and an AMD 64 bit Turion processor for less than $1000!Expect prices for laptops to get even lower in the coming months thanks to intense competition between the two heavyweight processor manufacturers, Intel and AMD. Both companies have introduced mobile chips with speeds that offer desktop performance.CONNECTIVITYLaptops with Wi-Fi are no longer an optional luxury. At Mammoth Coffee in Newport, Ohio, more and more business owners are jostling for notebook "office space", - to the modest tune of a blueberry muffin, and a Cafe Au Lait. Those who dine at fine restaurants at the very least expect a sensory, savory meal, set upon a table with fine silver and white table cloths; superior service; and ambient lighting. Well that's exactly what's on the menu at Trapeze restaurant in Burlingame, California,- along with wireless access service for laptops.Wireless fidelity has moved effortlessly from the boundaries of home and office to the pristine elegance of posh restaurants. But, will the wireless laptop revolution end here?Last Mile Communications have even greater ambitions for Wi-Fi notebooks. They hope to use the established infrastructure of the many lamp-posts dotting around merry old England to produce a network of wireless access points. This ambitious UK company would like convert the street lights so they can be accessed via your laptop to get on the internet. Last mile would also like to put flash memory in the lights so even without accessing the web you could find information about local amenities, and emergency fire, police and ambulance services.PORTABILITYLaptops with performance rivalling that of desktop computers used to be knee breakers - Not any more. A stream of high quality ultralights and ultraportables have flooded onto the market in the last few months.Acer's Red dot award winner, the Travelmate 3000 boasts a widescreen 12.1 inch panoramic display, and the notebook's compact chassis occupies less desktop space than a sheet of A4 paper - weighing just 1.4kg. The Sony T2, a sleek silver ultralight laptop, is equipped with a 60GB hard drive, 1.2GHz processor and weighs just under 1.4kg.Too big you say? How about Toshiba's Libretto U100? This laptop weighs just 2.16 pounds, has a 1.20GHz Intel Pentium M processor, and sports a hard drive protection system.Tom Fox writes for the Laptops Weblog - Laptopical is a site dedicated to offering relevant news commentary and reviews about notebook computers.More laptop news

***Laptop Computers and the PVP Effect!***

Roll over lumbering desktop computers, the limber laptop is here, and it's here to stay! For a while now notebooks have outstripped their ageing desktop PC siblings, easily winning the gold medal in the computer sales olympics. We will illustrate how the PVP effect has contributed greatly to the increase in popularity of notebook computers.(P) Portability:Firstly it may be stating the obvious, but people buy laptops because they can take them anywhere. Office workers need no more be confined to their claustrophophic cubicles. Instead those statistic charts and data reports can be compiled on a train, in the comfort of an arm chair, or even on the beach! Portability equals flexibility, but alas this hasn't always been the case. Todays ultra portable laptop computers have a come along way since the bulky, sewing machine sized machines of the late seventies and early eighties. Indeed one of the first portable computers was built by IBM, and this machine (IBM 5100) weighed in at a hefty 50lbs! Today's corridor warriors would have trouble lugging that puppy from meeting to meeting, unless of course they subjected themselves to an intensive dose of steroids :)(V) Value:In the seventies the aforementioned IBM 5100 would have set you back a staggering 20,000 dollars. Today a top of the range IBM Thinkpad can be bought for around 3000 dollars. Cheaper Thinkpads can often be obtained for well under a thousand dollars, especially if you don't mind purchasing a used or refurbished model.(P) Performance:Many laptops today come fitted with Centrino processors which offer superb performance and improved battery life. What is Centrino I hear you ask? Well this is Intel's name for their new notebook technology that combines their Pentium M processor, 855 chipset and the Intel PRO / Wireless 2100 WiFi 802.11 network interface. Laptops fitted with these processors are usually lighter because of the smaller components used.Couple this attractive feature with wireless networking technology and you have a powerful technological package. Wi-Fi is short for "Wireless Fidelity" and it's usage is growing quickly amongst home users, office workers, even coffee shops. If you enter Wi-Fi areas with a properly equipped notebook, you can access the Internet at broadband speeds.Tom Fox writes for the The Laptops Weblog, a web site providing information and articles related to notebook computers.

***Laptop Computers Instigate Classroom Revolution!***

Have you noticed that laptop computers are beginning to dictate what happens in the classroom? Additionally, mobile technology is changing where learning takes place. This is especially true as laptops are entering the educational arena in ever increasing numbers.Yet not all educators are quick to jump on the notebook bandwagon. They are waiting to see if laptop use is truly changing learning for the better. That?s why schools such as Framingham State College in Boston and the Myron B. Thompson Academy in Honolulu are being scrutinized. Both schools have elected to use laptop computers as a major resource in their curriculum. It must be noted that simply having laptop computer access does not change the learning process - the entire curriculum must change and merge technology with academics. Using a laptop is more than replacing paper and pencil with electronics. The entire relationship between the teacher and students must change. Teachers are no longer merely dispensers of knowledge but become facilitators in a learning process that takes place with additional tools for communication with students. This encourages greater student involvement, long recognized as a key to learning.Professors actively engaged in education via technology see laptops as a way to give real life experiences to otherwise insipid theories. For instance, physics students can witness the breakdown of radioactive materials, math students can apply their knowledge of logic to projects that use spreadsheets, and english majors can evaluate peers? poetry and prose. With laptop availability in the classroom, access to additional information and knowledge is readily available. So what do students think of the laptop trend? Well most find it invigorating. Rather than dealing with one dimensional lectures, teachers can engage the internet to show relevancy to daily life. Out of date, static texts can be set aside for breaking news stories - and so much more.As schools show the link between laptops and learning effectiveness, the trend for laptop use will certainly grow. For those opposed to the technological revolution taking place in today's classrooms, perhaps the words of Maria Montessori should be heeded.".....If education is always to be conceived along the same antiquated lines of a mere transmission of knowledge, there is little to be hoped from it in the bettering of man's future....."Tom Fox writes for the The Laptops Weblog, a web site providing information and articles related to notebook computers.

***Laptop Computer Security - How Safe Is Your Notebook?*** unimarter UniMarter
***Laptop Computer Security - How Safe Is Your Notebook?***

Hundreds of thousands of laptop computers are stolen every year, yet only a tiny percentage of those laptops are ever recovered! Most notebooks are swiped when they are left unattended in offices, hotel conference rooms, taxi cabs, and public places such as airports and restaurants. When your laptop is sold on the street, valuable data is lost with it. Sometimes the data, not the computer, is the real target. A devious thief with access to personal details stored on your laptop's hard drive such as, name, address, date of birth, bank details, and social security number, could wreak havoc with your personal finances and credit rating. There have been many high profile victims of laptop theft. Recently a laptop computer was stolen from California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's press secretary, Margita Thompson. Access to confidential political data may have been the prominent motive behind the theft of this notebook.Protecting your laptop computerRecently IBM has created a fingerprint reader for select Thinkpad T42 models, that could well be the future of laptop security. The fingerprint reader creates a biometric layer of security almost impossible to breach, but what about the rest of us with older notebooks?Below you'll find 4 useful ways to protect your laptop computer.Laptop cable locksCable locks should deter the casual pilferer. Many laptops are equipped with a Universal Security Slot (USS) that allows the notebook to be attached to a cable lock. They can be purchased cheaply at office supply outlets and computer stores.Engraving your laptop computerPermanently engraving your precious notebook may seem like a drastic measure, but marking the outer case of the laptop with your phone number and address, may deter thieves and, if stolen, increase the chance of having the laptop returned to you.Laptop motion detectorsEquipping your notebook with a motion detector alarm that sets of a loud noise if it is moved. Such an alarm might cause a thief to discard the laptop. An interesting variation is a small radio transmitter that triggers an alarm when a notebook moves more than 10-20 feet away from a receiver kept in your purse, wallet or pocket. Such an alarm would certainly alert the thousands of people a year who simply leave their laptops in taxis.Laptop trackingStolen laptops can be electronically traced using a software tracking code installed inside the laptop's hard drive. Tracing programs, such as Cyberangel work when the laptop connects to the Internet and secretly reports the location of the laptop. Computrace Personal offers a similar service through a three year contract and agrees to pay up to $1000 if your notebook computer is not recovered in thirty days. Ztrace is a company offering an interesting twist to laptop tracking. They offer a facility to remotely delete or encrypt sensitive files on your laptop after it is stolen. The portability of laptop computers is both a boon to busy executives and to laptop thieves. Learning to secure your notebook will thwart their efforts and keep your laptop and precious data safe!Tom Fox writes for the The Laptops Weblog, a web site providing information and articles related to notebook computers.

It's a fact. Notebook computers have leapt into the global sales arena with the force and flexibility of Bruce Lee, effortlessly dispatching their desktop competitors with nothing more than a dynamic one-inch sonoma punch. With wi-fi technology blossoming around us, the demand for laptops is only set to increase. The ability to play games, or casually surf the internet in wireless coffee shops and airports, will ensure that notebook computers remain incredibly popular.Laptops, though, aren't just utilized for leisure. Consequently, everyone's using notebooks these days, from sprightly seventh graders to zimmer-wielding septegenarians. But can this popularity and the incredible global sales figures be sustained?Yes they can. Once you couldn't find a notebook for under a thousand dollars, but now there are entry level selling for seven hundred dollars, and even lower with coupons and rebates. Recently, Wal-Mart began to offer laptops with a linux operating systems, and 30GB hard drives for under 500 dollars. So just how low can laptop prices go?Can you say a hundred dollars? If Nicholas Negroponte, founder of MIT's Media Lab gets his wish, wireless laptops for third world countries will soon be available for around 100 dollars.2005 - The Year of the Rooster?Think again. ***Email Marketing Software - A Review of Two Popular Services***

When it comes to web-based email marketing software, IntelliContact and Constant Contact are two of the most popular providers.I've used both for my email marketing campaigns, and while both are quality products I lean more toward IntelliContact. (For the sake of simplicity, I'll refer to them as I.C. and C.C. from here on out.)Both are entirely web-based, which means you don't have to install the software. Rather, you log into your account, prepare your email marketing message or newsletter, broadcast it, and let the service handle the rest. Using a hosted form of email marketing software (like these two) has its advantages. There's nothing to install, and nothing to update or maintain. At first glance, cost is the most noticeable difference between these email marketing providers. IntelliContact comes in a few dollars less per month than Constant Contact (as of this writing). But the big difference in my opinion is usability. While both are relatively easy to use, I found C.C. to be more challenging, with more of a learning curve to overcome. For me, I.C. was more accessible and navigable. I could find things quicker with I.C., especially my first time using their email marketing software.Keeping customers informed is another area where I.C. excels. Both companies offer plenty of "how to" tips on email marketing, but I.C. goes beyond that by providing industry news. They seem to be in regular contact with the big Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in order to maintain good relations, and they do a good job keeping their customers in the loop. Conclusion
Though IntelliContact is my personal choice, anyone interested in web-based email marketing software and service providers would do well to evaluate both companies.* Copyright 2006, Brandon Cornett. ***CRM 101: Customer Relationship Management for Beginners*** unimarter UniMarter
***CRM 101: Customer Relationship Management for Beginners***

Customer Relationship Management, abbreviated ?CRM,? is the term for a business strategy that is designed to improve customer service. CRM is also designed to increase customer satisfaction and gain new customers, thus increasing a business? revenue. CRM is a term that can be applied to software and an entire business strategy. How Does CRM Work?Essentially, CRM works by gathering information about customers and analyzing the information collected. An example of this would be supermarket discount cards (I.E. Kroger Plus Cards, ACME cards, Giant Eagle cards, etc...). When a consumer scans his or her card, and then his or her items, the items that customer bought are entered into a database. This gives businesses an accurate idea of which customers buy what. Businesses then analyze this information. After analyzing the data collected, businesses can adjust their marketing campaigns and increase sales. Customer Relationship Management brings the company closer to the customer. CRM closes a ?relationship gap? that can be formed between the business and its customers.CRM is also useful for customer service. Businesses can use automated CRM applications to analyze customer complaints, or compliments, and change the business processes accordingly. Interestingly enough, CRM products also run many automated call-centers for businesses (I.E. customer service systems). CRM applications and practices are used to make businesses more efficient and improve customer satisfaction. What Can a Business Gain From Using CRM?There are many goals that businesses have when implementing CRM techniques and applications. The business wants to improve customer service, which will subsequently improve customer satisfaction. The business also wants to maximize revenue by advertising the right products to the right people. In other words, businesses want to know what customers want. Once a business finds what a customer wants through a CRM method, the business can then provide the customer exactly what he or she desires. This will lead to returning customers, and the gaining of new customers. CRM processes also are designed to monitor all of the contact between customers and companies. Maintaining a positive relationship with one?s customers is an essential element in business. Well-rounded CRM works to ensure that this element exists.CRM ApplicationsCRM applications are applications that run on the same principals as Microsoft Word and Excel. There are many values that can be filled in. Once these values are filled in, the data needs to be analyzed and interpreted. A major advance in CRM application technology is the invention of applications, which can collect data, and analyze it at the same time. This new technology will make CRM even more effective and efficient.ConclusionFor any business, successful Customer Relationship Management navigation is becoming increasingly important in today?s competitive business world. Customer expectations are always increasing, and business services must increase along with these expectations. CRM is the method through which businesses can connect with their customers and therefore serve them better. Businesses with successful CRM strategy and applications will notice a large increase in sales, customer satisfaction, and simply the overall success of the business. For the latest news and information concerning CRM, visit http: / / www.crmblog.org. ***Scrap Booking Online: Word Perfect or Corel Graphics Suite?***

Scrapbooks are very popular these days. I think that almost everyone wanted to capture family histories and stories in any which way they can. And with the onset of digital technology, scrap booking has even extended to newsletters and journals with photos and illustrations online and in the email. They've become so popular that it's not surprising to receive an entire scrapbook from your relatives and friends and loved ones even across the globe. With the advanced technology, people have been using graphic design and desktop publishing software to help them create wonderful and creative scrapbooks. Two of this well-known software is CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 12 and WordPerfect Office Suite 12.Each of the software has their own endearing qualities. Both applications are used to create newsletters as far as I know. But what software to choose? It all depends on what you want to create.CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 12For graphically-rich family history newsletter or time capsule, CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 12 would be the ideal software as it is the easiest graphics suite available in the market today.CorelDRAW Graphics Suite is a vector editing program. This software is definitely for illustration, page layout, and vector drawing. It has the Corel Photo-Paint for bitmap editing of photos and images for that professional digital imaging look. It has hundreds of clip art photos and images to choose from, which you can overlay your own family photos on top. It also has Corel R.A.V.E. 3 for motion-graphics creation. With the software's features and vast collection of photos, clipart and fonts, you can create and design a professional-looking newsletter or a family history time capsule, and even a memorable album where you and your family will find the highlights of your life in wonderful and elegant designs made by you.Corel's WordPerfect Office 12And if you're the simple type, and you don't want too much clutter, you can use Corel's WordPerfect Office 12 to create a no-visual and text-based newsletter. The software has an array of newsletter templates you can use to help you start right away with your newsletter. This so far, is the best alternative to Microsoft Office.Better yet, why not use both software to help you create your scrap book? One freelance newsletter designer who specializes in genealogy utilizes both software because the combination makes him complete his design tasks twice as fast. "I can create graphics in CorelDRAW 12 and quickly pop them into all my text-based WordPerfect 12 office documents because switching between files is very easy," he relates. This is made possible by the tools in both the software that reduce the number of steps required to finish his jobs.He adds that what makes it more worthwhile is that aside from saving time, finger movements on the mouth is also reduced, thereby reducing cramps and strains from the fingers to the wrist. For comments and suggestions regarding this article please contact webmaster@ucreative.com or visit http: / / www.ucreative.com

***New Super Mario Bros. Review***

He's been reincarnated in various forms and formats but this time the Mario that we all know and love has been resurrected in true classic, plaforming action in the latest DS game, New Super Mario Bros.New Super Mario Bros. returns to Mario's roots. We haven't seen a Mario game like this in over 15 years, and even longer if you consider that the N64 version was rendered in 3D. This version is a 2D side-scroller but it does incorporate some excellent 3D graphics. Mario is rendered in 3D as are many of the enemies and environments, although you can't explore them like you could in the N64 version.Right from the first few seconds of play you can tell that you're in for a good time. The game just reeks of quality. It looks great, sounds like nostalgia, responds brilliantly and is great fun - and that's just the first minute of game play. You can tell that Nintendo has done their homework on this game. It retains the look and feel of the side-scrolling Super Mario Bros. series but manages to update and upgrade it with new moves, enemies, booby traps, puzzles, bonuses and secrets so that you will always be mindful that you are playing a new game and not some reheated rehash. There are plenty of nods to its heritage, including goombas, Koopas, question mark blocks and flagpole jumping at the end of levels but these are classic elements that I believe must be included to give us a sense of familiarity. Maybe this wouldn't have worked five or ten years ago, but enough time has passed so that we don't perceive these elements as hackneyed. With today's games we tend to take the storylines too seriously, when in reality the story can't fix a terrible game. The Super Mario Bros. storyline is about as basic as they come, and we don't really expect it to be any different. Come to think of it, it doesn't need to be any different. It's all laid out for us. Are mission is to rescue to Princess from the clutches of Bowser, in this case, Bowser Jr. He's kidnapped her and taken her to the castle at the end of the first level. Once you reach that castle, Bowser Jr. takes Peaches to the next castle. This continues on through numerous levels. There are eight worlds in all, and an overhead map allows you to see all the different levels in each world. It's quite easy to get through the entire game since there are plenty of power-ups and extra lives, but you'll miss out on the whole experience if you just go barreling through the levels without stopping to smell the piranha plants. There are a couple of hidden worlds to unlock. You should explore all areas thoroughly to find all of the unlockables, secrets, surprises and shortcuts. There is also the added challenge of collecting coins. Not only will you earn extra lives by collecting coins but there are three huge coins in each level for you to locate. This challenge isn't easy and I didn't find them all yet but I'm intrigued to return to the levels where I missed them. The replay value is tremendous if you decide that you want to find everything in the game and take part in all of the challenges.Mario has plenty of moves this time round. He will still run, jump and stomp but there are a few more moves that give him more flexibility, and he'll need it to negotiate his way through some of the more deadly platform elements and enemies that he will encounter. A butt bounce will allow him to smash the blocks he's standing on. He can grow large enough to take up the entire screen, which allows him to smash tons of blocks and take care of smaller enemies by trampling them. A mini-mushroom will make Mario tiny and allow him to enter into small places. It will also let him walk over water. A wall bounce lets him scale walls to reach new heights or can be used if he falls into a pit.
Platforms will twist, bend, warp, shrink, expand, hover, fall, elevate and destruct. I don't think the developers left anything out. Even the ground will undulate, causing Mario to experience a rippling effect not unlike a ship on a stormy sea. Despite all these new elements and moves, the game doesn't take full advantage of the DS's unique control system - not the touch screen control system or even the dual screen for that matter. The bottom screen is basically used just to display your progress in each level. The touch feature is used almost exclusively to access your power-ups. In other words, there's nothing that you would really miss, control-wise, if this game were released on the GBA. However, the graphics are what really matters and this game would never look this great on the GBA simply because of the DS's uber-powerful processing capabilities. This version not only looks 10 times better than the Super NES version, but it's just as big. Think about that for a moment. That should tell you how far Nintendo has come. But wait, there's more? The game also features a two-player verses mode featuring Luigi. The premise is a race of sorts, to see who can be the first to grab five stars in a platforming obstacle course. You can purposely attempt to injure the other player by banging into him. This will cause him to drop his star and allow you to claim it for yourself. This mode can be played via sharing with only one copy of the game card. The same mini-games from the Super Mario 64 DS game are also included but they can be played with other players, requiring only one copy of the game. These mini-games make better use of the touch controls but they aren't incredibly exciting. The sounds are fantastic. It's like having an arcade in the palm of your hands. "Is that an arcade in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?" Mario has a voice in this game and repeats a few Italian-soaked clich?s. Thankfully he avoids saying, "That's a spicy meat-a-ball-a."New Super Mario Bros. is new in looks, feel and gameplay but thankfully we still get to visit Mario's old super stomping ground. This game is reason enough to purchase the DS system if, gosh forbid, none of the other killer Nintendo titles have tickled your fancy yet.Check out Cheat Code Central's full review of New Super Mario Bros., which includes our scores and screen shots for the game.
